The silver lining is that Holmstrom will retire now

Damn, can't believe he's finally retiring. GOAT defenseman imo.

1. Lidstrom
2. Bourque
3. Orr

I know its been said before, but with Lidstrom/Holmstrom on the way out, the final remnants of the 90s Wings teams that most of us Wings fans on here grew up with is now gone. You know the day is coming, but it still sucks when it gets here.

Sad to hear Lidstrom is calling it quits. I hate the Wings, but always have had great respect for him (and all of the players from the 90's teams.)

Not new or anything, but still a cool watch if you haven't seen it.

Bob Hartley going to be named new head coach of the Calgary Flames today.

Habs gonna get stuck with Michel Therien imo.

Now that Bob Hartley is new head coach in CGY - official release momentarily - MTL job is down to Michel Therrien or Marc Crawford.

From a Puck Daddy article about Lidstrom's retirement:

Quote:
Finally, on the subject of the captaincy for the Detroit Red Wings, Lidstrom put over two players: "I would think that it is 'Zed' (Henrik Zetterberg), but also Niklas K ronwall has stepped forward and received a major leadership role on the team in recent years. Both are good candidates."
Typical Swedish bias. Why does Lidstrom hate Russians?

doesn't really matter who the Coach is unless you get some better players

some ok stuff coming through the system in Beaulieu, Tinordi, Gallagher, Kristo, Bournival, etc, but doubt much of that is NHL-ready. maybe Tinordi most ready, or Bournival as a bottom-6 McGrit. ppl seem to like Beaulieu, but from what i've seen he def needs some AHL seasoning, Gallagher too prob bc he's a midget.

man that McDonagh for Gomez trade was a disaster...

At this point they should just put Jacques Martin back behind the bench, since he's still under contract.

lol at hiring ****heads like Crawford and Therrien.

Srsly I want Roy. Yeah he hasn't coached at nhl-level so far but better make a real fresh start than with Therrien.

What's a realistic return for Luongo to Toronto?

On Vancouver blogs, people are saying just getting rid of the contract without taking back a horrible contract is great.

On Toronto blogs/media, they are saying they are going to have to give up Gardiner/Schenn and their 1st and possibly more.

What do you guys think? Somewhere in between?

Probably somewhere in between. If the Leafs think they have to give up that much they are beyond stupid. Luongo has incredibly limited trade value with that contract. If Vancouver is serious about moving him all the Leafs have to do is sit tight and their demands will drop significantly.

For a guy that started watching Red Wings hockey in 1989 and being a huge fan. All the players that I really loved to watch play are now gone and it really ****ing sucks. Sigh....
