All you have to do is offer him a long term (10 year) deal, and van can never match it. There's no way they will have 2 goalies signed to a decade each at the same time.

And luongo will die a canuck. Noone will touch that, plus he has a ntc (so he can avoid the hack teams that might gamble on him).

if david booth returns to form, that might help too. seems like vancouver's got the sedins and a bunch of guys who hurl pucks at the net. still, there's no reason to think they won't be a really good team next year.
i mean the homerun play might be to see if they can find a scorer with a contract that someone doesn't love anymore (or just sign someone like Doan maybe) to play with the Sedins, move Burrows down to Kesler's line full-time with Higgins/Booth, and knock everyone back a peg. find whoever to play 3rd line C (or just use Lapierre), maybe bring Salo back, and that's the team basically.

but yeah the problem is that Burrows, Booth, Higgins, Raymond, Hansen, etc are all about the same more or less. they can produce well enough in the regular season and get hot at times, but they aren't exactly difference makers on their own. the Sedins can be shut down, and if Kesler isn't doing anything (like most of this year) then gg.

and yeah, both of these posts pretty much.

yeah well i guess maybe we'll see how much Ervin Burrell Luongo has in him...

it might be to the point where he wants to leave, ya know? maybe Florida will take him back for whatever new AIDS contracts they want to dump on us.

This is basically his UFA year.
Nobody can offer sheet him if the Canucks file for arbitration.

I don't know what's funnier. The fact that she had no idea who he was, or that he actually gave a legit opinion on the weather

edit: the bieksa interview is hilarious

Really not sure if I want Salo back. The dude is getting old and slow, while this was actually one of his more durable seasons can he do it next year?

yeah Salo is slowing down, but if he's willing to take 1 year at $2m again how do you turn that down? he's still pretty solid defensively (getting beat for speed occasionally, but that's about it), and his shot alone makes the 2nd PP unit dangerous. hard to get a better #4 D-man for less money, and he could certainly get more elsewhere if he wanted to leave (see: Ohlund). it's super good value, even if he only plays his standard 60 games.

i think he stays, and i hope he does now that i think about it*, even if he does get bumped down to #5 guy + 2nd unit PP + 2nd unit PK or something. and maybe a full offseason will do him some good. but if they think guys like Tanev, Gragnani, Connauton, Sauve, etc are ready for real minutes (or they can't free themselves of Ballard/Alberts) then maybe not. but he should be a pretty safe and cheap option.

* - without having checked any advanced stats, but i mean his +/- is still good, amirite?

Sigh...

I'm here unfortunately...

Offseason stuff:

1. Lidstrom decision - this is obv priority #1 and the rest of the offseason decisions will follow suit

If Lidstrom hangs up the laces, I think Suter or Weber may be in Detroit before October

so what's the word in Antarctica (PenguinLand)? Was it really so terrible getting Sydney Crosby back late in the season? Did he really throw off the "timings" of Malkin/Neal/Staal that an EC favorite suffered 3 blowouts in the playoffs?

Spoiler:
Followup: if that is true, do you think Sydney Crosby currently the clubhouse leader for the least valuable player in this year's playoffs? I.e. the Alexander Semin Trophy?

Sylar's post should be reported since his team is still in playoffs

I think SYF is selling the Wings a little short here - why can't they get Suter AND Weber?
