The Giants admit it's a serious condition, but they don't consider it career-threatening. One source said, optimistically, that "success rates on procedures are much better now than a few years ago."

The arthritis can be a painful, lingering condition, but Phillips and the Giants insist that his career isn't over. He has nine months to rehab before 2010 training camp. The Giants' offseason moves will indicate a lot about their confidence in Phillips' knee. They'll have to have a fallback plan.

"I know that the doctors felt good about it," coach Tom Coughlin. "So we are very, very hopeful and optimistic." He'll have to wait five months before he can begin running. Regardless of Coughlin's enthusiasm, there's a chance that Phillips will never be the same player again.
Quote:
We're not exactly sure what that schedule is and the Giants probably aren't either. There were rumors that the patellofemoral arthritis could end the playmaking safety's career. Phillips' status for training camp remains in doubt.
I'm not going to pretend to know more than this, but I remember reading in the star ledger that his career was likely over when it happened, that seemed to be a bit of an overstatement, but doesn't sound like much of one.

Coughlin said a couple of weeks ago that he is doing very well and on schedule so we'll see.

He obviously could have his career derailed from it but I wouldn't consider that the most likely scenario. If he isn't the same player it'll be depressing since he looked like he was turning into a star.

Guess we'll see what they do in the offseason. I think that will be telling. I think it would be incredibly sad if he can't go because he was a fun player to watch and it seemed like the Giants had found a special player. I don't approve of any young emerging star falling off the face of the earth.

but then pierce didnt play another game. from what ive heard, he calls all the plays and makes the pre snap reads for the defense etc etc, and losing him was the breaking point for the defense

he had a very good season. no one is denying that.

look at his other two seasons where he attempted the most passes (06 and 08. both with 469 attempts, 37 short of this season). they are his two worst seasons by far.

I decided to analyze the rest of the team to see who has the better supporting cast.

Defense:
Steelers - 2 RANNNGGGZZZZZZZZZZ
Chargers - 0 RANNNGGGZZZZZZZZZZ
Steelers >> Chargers

O-Line:
Steelers - 2 RANNNGGGZZZZZZZZZZ
Chargers - 0 RANNNGGGZZZZZZZZZZ
Steelers >> Chargers

Running Backs:
Steelers - 2 RANNNGGGZZZZZZZZZZ
Chargers - 0 RANNNGGGZZZZZZZZZZ
Steelers >> Chargers

Receivers:
Steelers - 2 RANNNGGGZZZZZZZZZZ
Chargers - 0 RANNNGGGZZZZZZZZZZ
Steelers >> Chargers

I hate to say it but it looks like Ben has had a much much better team around him. Actually as a Steeler fan I'm really happy about it so I don't hate saying it at all.

That is funnier. Personally I think the trade for Eli was pure rapage on the Chargers part. But that is just me (and 99% of the rest of the knowledgeable football world).

So then usage does not have an inverse relationship with efficiency? Wouldn't the year he threw the most passes be his worst year?

Yeah, he proved that in 2005, 2006 and 2008, right? 2007 was a great playoff performance but his other playoff performances have been pathetic.

If San Diego got Big Ben instead of Rivers, they'd have won atleast 1 SB by now
