I mean, it's one thing to make a case for Tannehill, but saying "Cam is much more of a project than Tannehill is at this point" is just absolutely insane. OK, Tannehill's probably better at some throws, but Cam has an insane deep ball and (more importantly) a strong track record of being a very effective NFL quarterback.

I wish I were a GM who had Tannehill and I wish tweedy were a GM who had Cam.

Granted I'm pretty drunk but I'm pretty sure tweedy knows more about this stuff than ~any of us, and if needle agrees then I'm on board

Perhaps you're forgetting that Tannehill has an insane deep ball as well, and is elite on the run. I'm not really sure why you think it's insane that Cam is more of a project, perhaps you should specify.

What in the world does "track record of being an effective QB" mean? Because hes been in the league longer? Does that mean we ignore him plateauing for 3 years?

Haha, he told me to back him up in the thread based off of my assessment a week or two ago of Cam. I don't really have a strong opinion on Cam vs Tanny. I want Tanny to succeed because I like watching him play. But I like Cam too, and really believe he is hamstrung by just an outright awful coaching staff that may have been held together by Chuds.

It seems to be incredibly subjective to me as both are very close at the moment.

Perhaps I will do some screenshots in the near future for everyone that has apparently only seen Tannehill versus New Orleans. I assume plenty of people don't realize how close they are athletically either

Here's a quick macro look at why Cam's considered the superior prospect:

CAR 2009: 20th yards/drive, 20th points/drive
CAR 2010: 32nd yards/drive, 32nd points/drive
CAR 2011 (CAM): 6th yards/drive, 5th points/drive
CAR 2012: 9th yards/drive, 12th points/drive
CAR 2013: 8th yards/drive, 8th points/drive

MIA 2010: 20th yards/drive, 25th points/drive
MIA 2011: 20th yards/drive, 19th points/drive
MIA 2012 (TAN): 22nd yards/drive, 26th points/drive
MIA 2013: 26th yards/drive, 15th points/drive

Other notes: the Panthers with Cam are 5th, 10th, and 3rd in series success rate (% of series ending in 1st down or TD; FO calls it DSR but that makes no sense). Dolphins are 24th and 26th in Tannehill's two years. And, as an additional factor to be considered with these stats, Cam has played under a (consensus) disastrously awful coaching regime through the his whole career.

Well in 2009 and 2010 the Panthers basically had Blaine Gabbert clones starting for them.

Got 10 starts of Matt Moore in there, to be fair. (But, yeah, Delhomme and Clausen were abysmal.) Dolphins' two seasons were like 18 starts of Henne, 12 of Moore, 1 of Thigpen. Anyways, I think the general point stands.

Tannehill career; 31.7 attempts per game in 21 games so decent usage and certainly not a low usage guy like Rustle or even Kaep. However, 59.5%, 222.7 yards/game, 18 TD, 18 INT, 78.6 rating, 5.30 ANY/A, 8.1% sack rate (11.7% so far in 2013!). Rushed 66 times for 276 at 4.2 per and 2 TD's.

Cam career; 31.2 attempts per game in 37 games so again decent usage. 59.1%, 244.5 yards/game, 49 TD, 34 INT, 85.9 rating, 6.34 ANY/A, 7.0% sack rate (9.5% this year though). Rushed 282 times for 1600 yards at 5.7 per and 24 TD's.

RG3 career; 30.1 attempts per game in 20 games. 63.6%, 232.4 yards/game, 26 TD, 10 INT, 94.7 rating, 6.87 ANY/A, 6.2% sack rate. 147 rushes for 964 yards at 6.6 per and 7 TD's.

Luck career; 37 attempts per game in 22 games so he's carrying the team with his arm. 55.8%, 260.0 yards/game, 30 TD, 21 INT, 79.5 rating, 5.81 ANY/A, 6.2% sack rate. 86 rushes for 409 at 4.8 per and 7 TD's so he's a situationally dangerous runner.

Rustle Wilson; 25.0 attempts per game in 22 games so he's one of the lowest usage QB's in the NFL at least just looking at his passing. 63.3%, 198.7 yards/game, 34 TD, 14 INT, 97.9 rating, 6.87 ANY/A, 8.3% sack rate. 144 rushes for 783 yards at 5.4 per with 4 TD's.

Colin Kaepernick; 29.5 attempts per game in 13 starts but he played some where he didn't start so his real attempts per game is lower by a some amount so he's a low usage passing QB. 59.6%, 233.4 yards/game (actually some amount lower than this due to the starter issue, 203.5 per game in 2013), 18 TD, 8 INT, 92.0 rating, 6.98 ANY/A, 7.0% sack rate. 96 rushes for 585 yards at 6.1 per and 5 TD's.

Andy Dalton; 33.1 attempts per game in 38 starts. 61.1%, 226.8 yards/game, 55 TD, 35 INT, 84.5 rating, 5.71 ANY/A, 6.3% sack rate. 110 rushes for 342 yards at 3.1 and 5 TD's so he's not immobile but not gonna scare anyone with his running.

Jake Locker; 28.3 attempts per game in 15 start. 57.0%, 193.1 yards/game, 20 TD, 11 INT, 83.0 rating, 5.85 ANY/A, 7.4% sack rate, 64 rushes for 445 at 7.0 per and 3 TD's so he's sneaky good at running.

Blaine Gabbert; 27.8 attempts per game in 28 games. 53.3%, 155.6 yards/game, 22 TD, 24 INT, 66.4 rating, 3.76 ANY/A, 8.7% sack rate. He's also got 186 yards rushing at 2.5 per with 0 TD's so he sucks at running, too.

I make it Luck > Cam > RG3 > Rustle > Kaepernick = Locker = Tannehill > Dalton (lol arm) >>>>>>>>>>>>Gabbert

Luck is the guy you want for 15 years. Cam is the guy who could set NFL single season records, RG3 is good but his knees are not. Rustle is good but his height is not. Kaepernick, Locker, and Tannehill have potential.

And (not to compare this to Tannehill, who hasn't had great receivers either), Cam's receiving corps has been pretty terrible over his NFL career. Smith as #1/Olsen as TE are competent enough, but LaFell as #2 all three years, and Legedu Naanee/Louis Murphy/Ted Ginn Jr. as his #3s in 2011/12/13.

Most of these young QB's have pretty bad receiving corps. The 49'ers were decent last year but they are bad this year.

Dalton has by far the best receiving corps of the group but it's wasted on him with his pathetic arm.

I agree that Tannehill is very athletic. He's like 6'4" 225-230 or so which makes him relatively skinny compared to Luck at 6'4" 240 or Cam at 6'5" 250 but Luck and Cam are just as fast as Tannehill despite carrying the extra beef. Tannehill has a very live arm no question.

Das Boot, I'm well aware the panthers were horrendous before Cam. Everyone knows this.

I'm also aware that the Dolphins receivers have the 3rd highest drop %. Tannehill has the 4th highest accuracy % itl at 77.1% (Cam is 16th at 72.1).

Tannehill's OL has been unarguably worse than Cam's, and is one of the worst itl. Tannehill has had an avg of 2.48 seconds to throw (32nd of 37 qb's), and Cam has had an avg of 2.97 seconds to throw (7th).

Tannehill has carried the phins' one-dimensional offense this year. Carolina runs on 49.1% (3rd), while Miami runs on just 31.56% (30th)! Afaict, prior to this year the lowest run% ever was 31.57% by the 06 lions. As much as you love to lol running, a 2nd year QB shouldering that much of the load is astounding.

Tannehill's offense has been more predictable, he's had had less time to throw, and his receivers have dropped a ton of passes. Yet, Tannehill has been more accurate and his yards/completion happens to be identical to Cam's.

in terms of receiving talent around them i'd say

1. lolgabbert
2. dalton

3. tannehill

4. locker

5. luck
6. rg3
7. scam

8. kaepernick
9. rustle

both kaepernick and rustle move up considerably when crabtree/harvin get back ldo

I take back the statement about Colin = Locker = Tannehill. Locker has always been inaccurate and probably always will be so put him below Colin and Tannehill. But the rest stands as called.

What? TY Hilton and Reggie Wayne and the rest of the Colts receivers is way too low on your receiver list SRM. They should be right behind the Bengals.

2.48? LOL. Can you list every QB by time to throw, I want to see it. Too early to declare that Cam has "plateaued" after 4 games. He didn't plateu against the Vikings. If at the end of the season these first 5 games are what he looks like I'd be slightly concerned about it. Until then, meh.

Are people under the assumption that Mike Wallace is playing well? He's breaking off routes, dropping passes, whining, and is basically the definition of WIL.
