There was also little international flair and one (I think) EDM hit in sandstorm. Change title to most popular mid 2000's pop songs and it's closer to the truth imo.
edit: In my mind it's songs that have a great beat+ awesome hook with a lot of replayability . Huge +++ points for getting people on the dance floor. And a car banger is way different than a club banger which it seems like this thread mostly veered towards.
It also seems like people have such a narrow definition of "banger" that it means every team is so vanilla. I'll try to put together a more random and far stretching banger post coming up.
Good post (even though I disagree with a lot of your selections); part of this is indeed a USA (and millennial) cultural thing. Even Pitbull admits that despite all of his international travels, Miami is still where it's at.
Someone earlier made the good point that BOB is a good late-first pick for this draft, but for all of the international play it gets, it should be an early 1st.
Gangnam Style is a good one to deconstruct: it's got most of the ingredients you list, except that for whatever reason(s) it doesn't get people on the dance floor (at least in USA#1). Pretty sure Psy was a recent HQTrivia question ("most Youtube hits in 2015" or something) that tons of folks missed. USA is still in that uncomfortable melting pot phase of "we'll get down to a lot of the Latin-sounding hits, but anything Asian-sounding is still weird."
Also, for as awesome as this draft was, one element that was significantly NOT BANGER is the tons of VEVO videos that start with 45-60 seconds of background exposition before the music starts.
