because he's an amazing amazing player who has tons of heart? because he comes off as extremely humble in his interviews? i cant think of a reasonable reason not to like him

I think the whole match was closer than the final score, however Nadal really botched a lot of the numerous break points he had, had he converted those a little better he could have easily blown Fed out.

As someone who generally hates the very best players (I've always loathed Tiger Woods for ex.), I think you are hating just to hate if you don't like Roger Federer. He is one of the most awesome superstars in the history of sports imo.

EDIT: oh wait, were people talking about rafa? lol

What a great match. Federer and Nadal rarely disappoint. A lot of high level tennis on this match. The game where Nadal broke, it seemed like Rafa and Roger were playing as good as can be played.
The last game of the match was also incredible (although Roger had a one really bad shot). Rafa has to be the best defender in the game. Such a pleasure to watch.

I want Murray to win the whole thing and feel he could beat Novak but then fail v Rafa.

I also want Novak to play Rafa and see if he's in Rafas head like he is to Fed and further establish their rivalry!

As a Federer fan it's extremely disheartening to watch him play superb tennis all tournament, then falter when it comes to Nadal. He appears to dip in and out of the match and make tons of unforced errors that he wouldn't make against anyone else. Rafa ran pretty well, but also deserved the win because his intensity level never drops, and he rarely, if ever, has a sucky run of games where he hits a few bad shots. Same can't be said of Roger. Can't believe it's been 4.5 years since Roger beat Rafa in a slam

Novak to beat Murray, then Nadal for the 1st of the 3 slams he probably wins this year.

It`s not like Federer has to play lots of long points and he isn`t feeling the pressure of passing shots against guys like Del Potro who on paper was his biggest challenge this tournament till semis.
In a way u can make a comparison to soccer.Just because Real Madrid beats almost everyone it doesn`t mean they will win vs Barcelona regardless how good they play

3rd set was a killer, would've been so awesome if Fed could've come back from 6-1 down in the tiebreak .

I think Fed had a really good chance of winning this if he could've gone past Rafa, he looked really good this tourney.

Yes, but he knows he has to serve well, keep the points shorter, and take his chances when they present themselves. I accept the football analogy, but i also think there's some form of mental block in slams against Rafa that Roger can't quite overcome. It's not like Rafa is invincible and Roger is incapable of beating him.

That`s the thing. The surface has a pretty high bounce and certainly isn`t fast enough for Federer to get lots of easy points like he would do on an indoor surface and once the point is played from the baseline Nadal would win 3 out of 4 points.
I don`t think it`s about Federer playing poorly vs Nadal in the slams. At IW last year he also struggled on a slow hard court and looking at all surfaces in the slams it`s all looking pretty similar.
The days u get 4 players in the semis of RG and completely other players in the semis of Wimbledon are long gone.Surfaces are way to similar.
U might get a bit of variation on an indoor court or even Davis Cup but the rest look basically the same and the points are similar.
