If I'm watching a sport for the first time and a situation comes up that I don't understand, I'm going to figure out how it works. Because I want to understand it. In Euroland exists this (obv sexist) stereotype that "women just don't get offside". Not true at all, of course, but it stems from there not being nearly as many women as men who are interested enough to care about understanding it.

If you explain the offside rule in a concise and logical way, though, and a person still doesn't get it, then idgaf whether that person is male or female. That person is simply too stupid, and I wouldn't bother.

I understand the offsides rule. I just don't understand why they ever thought it was a good idea to apply the rule on free kicks.

they do do this actually, it's called the australian rules international cup and it's been held every 3yrs since 2002. australia doesn't compete obviously

there's some small precedent for foreigners playing, there's irish in the afl and a canadian. prob a few others i'm forgetting

You seem to be wasting a lot of time on things you don't care about. Maybe that's why your country lags behind.

Only them? No white New Zealanders? The All Blacks are pretty mixed White/Maori every time I watch some Rugby.

(And before anyone gets their knickers in a twist. I don't know (and I refuse to Google) whether or not "White New Zealanders" is the PEE CEE term (although it probably is Caucasian American New Zealanders ))

JESUS ****ING CHRIST that hit at 30 seconds.

Serious question. How many players have died on the pitch in this sport's history?

AFL is so incredible to watch. No clue why it hasn't taken off elsewhere or get more airtime.

This is obv the correct answer. Now that Sky have started showing games maybe it will lead to an increase in popularity in other countries. Apparently even the Queen has watched a game recently

Prbly cause it's usually on in the middle of the night and Australian culture gets like no play in the States

I love betting on AFL, Rugby League, and Rugby Union. I just chase steam for a sweat but I experience real joy going through the transition from ignorance to knowledge on a new sport that really entertains me.

Makes me sad because I know they're finite and the list is dwindling for me.
