Is it?
Ah well, the earth was also "generally considered" rather flat than spherical during lengthy periods in time.

as a 100% casualfan who discovered rugby on vacation in australia, union is mega boring compared to league

Well it's apparently dumbed down

Quote:
Rugby union has more laws than rugby league[23][24] and it has been described as being more a complex game.[25][26] Rugby league in turn has been described as a simpler game that is easier for spectators to understand.[27] Mat Rogers, an Australian dual-code rugby international player, has said "Rugby [union] is very complicated and rugby league is much more simple in comparison". England's Chris Ashton, also a dual international, has said that union has "more of a tactical side, more that can happen in a game". Ireland's Tom Court, has said "Rugby Union is a complex game with certain closed skills like scrummaging and line-out lifting and rugby league requires a higher level of fitness to compete at the highest level".[28]
I was surprised when I started getting into it a while back that League was the more popular when I read up on it.

I dunno if it's just because I was exposed to Union first but it def appeals to me more. League just seems truncated.

maybe it's because I come at league from the perspective of an American football fan, but stuff like this just appeals to me so much more than the scrum or the lifting in union. I like the open-field running and playmaking that seems like it's more present in league than union (admittedly from a mega small sample size that I've watched, I'm very open to being corrected)

There's 13 players to a side in League compared to 15 in Union so I assume that explains some of the discrepancy in open field action

I think Union was more of what I always envisioned rugby was, I like the tug of war matriculatin' up the field aspect I guess

gotta support the brother in law and the otago highlanders somehow pulling off this miracle season and taking home the super 15 rugby UNION crown

Rugby Union is like chess

Rugby League is like checkers.

Most people not familiar with either wouldnt be able to tell the difference, they normally just call it all Rugby

ya, but if someone takes your checkers stone, you can wriggle, put it back on, and they have to back up their stones.

I've watched exactly one Rugby League game in my life. Quite a few Union games (which I had just called Rugby until then, not even knowing about the other game). I'm pretty sure the count will remain at one. League seemed incredibly boring to me.

Lolleague. You cam actually compete for the ball in rucks, maul and scrims. With league you stand there and hold hands.

watch that hardest hits video the other RT posted, it's basically a game where you go out and jump as high as you can with both knees and elbows out aiming for soft spots on your opponents' bodies..
