I chose also not to do interviews, which is why I decided not to enter the tournament. I'm gonna hold firm and also choose to stand my ground and not enter Wimbledon.

No post-match interviews at my local courts, though, so I'll continue to play there.

Nice, point still valid though. Utterly dominate in his field.

Isner takes the first set v Tsitsipas

Meh I know he's pretty terrible to watch but always had a soft spot for him cos of that 70-68 game that was just ridiculous lol

and to be fair to him the guy can serve jesus I thought clay was the hardest to serve aces

Sabalenka is one of the 15 or so women who can win every slam for the next 10 or so years, so she'll get a couple at least.

Only problem with predicting the women's bracket is that 14 of those women are gonna lose, and 4 or 5 of them early. Both my finalists are out already, and 3 of my 4 semifinalists.

Serena's heyday is over, and women will never play best of 5 in slams, so this is the way it's gonna be for a while.

Clay is a little slower so there's a slight reduction in aces, but the ball also kicks higher, and with Isner's height, that means his serves kick even higher than on hard/grass, so the effectiveness of his serves are still really freaking elite even though the ace count is a little lower.

Over on the challenger circuit, Jack Sock has won 2 tight 3-setters in a row over Ernesto Escobedo and Thai-Son Kwiatkowski. He's showing some signs of actually giving a ****, which I haven't seen from him in years. He looks like he's putting in at least about 75% effort on most points.

Coco Gauff beats Jen Brady in 19 mins! Ok, Jen retired when 1-6 down.

I thought Coco had secured her spot for the Olympics but #66 Sloane Stephens could actually overtake her if she wins the final #unlikely

In other news, Swiatek looked awesome, 7-6 6-0 vs Kontaveit

Seems certain that Federer has no intention of playing a QF against Djokovic.

Will either withdraw from his R16 v Berrettini, or win then withdraw before the QF.

Don't particularly care for any matches today other than Vondrousova vs Badosa.

Hsieh / Mertens [1] vs Mattek-Sands / Swiatek might be fun.

And now it’s happened, Roger has had enough match practice leading into the grass court season. Congrats Berrettini, rest up for Novak.

Am I crazy or is it really wrong to enter a tournament if you can’t complete it? I feel it’s a slap to the face to the player/players you take a spot from that are actually fit enough to play the matches. I feel this would have come off better if he said he was injured and not “listening to his body”. I think Feds career is over very soon. It was a great run and I think he outperformed like no other past 32. It’s really too bad we didn’t get nadal/fed/djoko all in their primes to really differentiate who the true goat is.

Think fed is most likely true goat as he was super dominant on tour in his 20s. The only downside was the competition seemed slightly weak (he beat Roddick how many times in slam finals) which I consider kinda laughable as Roddick was tooled on by the big 3-4.

Btw I feel tennis is going to go downhill when we lose fed/ nadal/ djoko due to age. I feel the young guns today are hard to root for/ haven’t really challenged the big 3 which is kinda sad. Nadal is 35, fed 40, djoko 34. I feel 30+ is very advanced for tennis age. It’s very sad the kids aren’t stepping up and beating these guys (even though the big 3 are all great).

It's also important to keep in mind how amazingly lucky and spoiled we are as tennis fans to have witnessed all 3 of the far and away best tennis players of all time in roughly the same era. In what other sports have fans in their 30s or 40s had the chance to watch the 3 best of all time for their entire careers?

You realize that in no other time in the history of tennis has anyone played nearly as well as Fed/Nadal/Vax, right? What are the odds that anyone else alive today will reach that level, considering that no one before them did? After the big 3 retire, tennis will go back to normal.

The pouting and whining from loads of people in this thread and elsewhere on the interwebs about no one under 30 being able to regularly crush the literal 3 best of all time is bizarre and laughably illogical.

Serena loses 3-6 5-7 to Rybakina. The finalist from the bottom half will be one of Rybakina [21], Pavlyuchenkova [31], Zidansek, Badosa.

Badosa is technically seeded because Riske withdrew after the draw was made but before the tournament started.

I like Rybakina's game, she has the 4th or 5th best serve on tour imo. Badosa is on a hot streak for sure, her backhand was on fire today. Still hits tons of DFs though. Zidansek is a consistent clay grinder who took advantage of a rusty Andreescu and then a weak draw, but she's not beating Badosa if Badosa plays anywhere near the level she's had so far. Pavs has had two good wins in a row but there's a reason she's never been to a slam SF.

Iga vs Kostyuk should be good. They've both steamrolled so far and they have quite a contrast of styles. Kostyuk is a good talent but still too much of a headcase imo.

Jack Sock wins the Little Rock Arkansas challenger. His first title since the Paris Masters in 2017, which got him into the top 10. He's now #224 in the live ranking.

He went from winning an M1000 to winless until he snagged the Arkansas Little Rock whatever. Incredible.

Also, today's men's matches were all super boring. Pretty lame to be this deep in a tournament and still having all / nearly all straight set matches.

LMAO

Out of about 1000 possible simulations of mens tennis history, we probably lucked out and got one of the best possible outcomes for these 3 GOATS to compete against each other for 15 years. All were GOAT talents, with different personalities and styles, all had GOAT dedication to the game and to their craft, and all 3 had pretty amazing runs of good health throughout their careers. The Nadal/Fed rivalry was thought to be possibly the greatest rivalry ever, and then just a handful of years later everyone agrees that the Djokovic/Nadal rivalry is clearly the GOAT rivalry.

Your statement reads like someone who won the lottery twice in a row being sad that they didnt win 3 in a row.
