I've got to admit I'm tired of hearing "Big 3" all day. It's really the Big 2 right now. Fed's not gonna win another major and he's been passed by the young guns imo.

As far as the young guns and how many majors they'll win, I highly doubt anyone playing today will reach 10. Medvedev, Thiem, Tsitsipas, Opelka, Auger-Aliassime, and Sinner will all win some. One of them to reach 10 is highly unlikely.

There's like 5 players that won 10+ majors, of course it's highly unlikely those players ship 10 of them

We'll probably be back to the late 90s status where you have many guys that win between 2 and 5 each

They are still far away from women tennis where in each grand slam half of the top 4 is out before week 2

The other thing to consider is that most of the 10+ major winners alreayd had a few under their belt by the current age of most next gen guys. Of course we have better fitness, nutrition, and style, etc to have old guys stand a chance more - but that also means you need to be really talented if age is less of a factor, and it's unclear if most of any of these guys have the same relative talent of those 10+ guys.

Sinner still probably the favorite of that group to go 10+ but he's still a massive dog.

Do you think Kyrgios will have any chance for a Major title?

Non zero chance if Vax and Rafa both fall off a cliff and he cares. I don't think it's likely but I'd probably be like 5%/15% on it.

Sorry - I'm an idiot and didn't see this wasn't directed to me.

Why wouldn't mens and women's slam results be completely different? The whole point of playing 5 sets is to reduce variance. The level of performance required for a woman to win a slam is no different than the level of performance required to win Indian Wells, Miami, or Madrid.

When the best men in the world get together to play best of 3 tournaments, as in the masters events, we get winners like Isner, Sock, and Khachanov.

I'd be quite surprised if Opelka ever won a slam.

Good points.

If this AO was best of 3 we probably get a Vax/Nadal final.

No surprise that the false WTA #1 Ash Barty has lost again, this time in Adelaide to #37 Collins, 6-3 6-4. She is still 1350 ranking points ahead of the current US Open and Australian Open winner, Naomi Osaka. No issue with the WTA freezing rankings for a while, but it’s ridiculous to count best results for each tournament from either 2019 or 2020. By her own choice, Barty has only played 4 or 5 tournaments in the past 12 months (3 of them being in Australia in the past 4 weeks). Barty is still #1 now only because she won the French Open in 2019.

Speaking of DRC I just listened to a podcast interview with her former coach Tom Hill, who is now coaching Sakkari, and formerly was Sharapova's hitting partner. He had nothing but great things to say about DRC's game and personality. I think DRC is like Murray in the sense that her on court persona is insufferable but they seem like cool people off court.

The podcast is called Control the Controlables, hosted by a coach who runs a tennis academy in spain. There was a good episode with Xavier Malisse a few months ago. And one with Gimelstob, which confirmed everything I already thought about Gimelstob.

Watched the 3rd set of Sinner-Bedene. Sinner's movement was not great and got worse as the set went on. Then at 2-4 in the TB he had to take a MTO to get his back worked on. I don't know how serious it is but back problems at 19 is not a great sign. The kid needs some more muscle on his frame to protect his joints.

Is this scientifically true or just something people say?

Edit: Ok, this appears to be supported by science.

Coco Gauff into SF of the WTA500 Adelaide International having defeated American Shelby Rogers. Up to a career high ranking of 38, would move to #36 with a SF win v Bencic and #31 with a final win v Swiatek/Teichmann. Gauff could be seeded for the French Open.

Highest ranking females <18:
38 (age 16.9) - Coco Gauff
348 (age 17.8) - Daria Lopatetska

No 16yo male ranked under 1000.

Considering Bencic and Swiatek's form, and that she's beaten Teichmann twice recently, it's a good chance for her 2nd title.

I'm still not sold on her future prospects of greatness. Of course it's impressive to get to this level at her age, especially in this era of everyone peaking about 5 years later than they used to. But I haven't seen anything yet that makes me think her peak level will be that much higher than her current level. She seems to have great coaching and supportive but not too crazy parents so that's a significant upside.

Watch out bitches, Bychkova is back!

https://www.ubitennis.net/2021/02/fo...-18-month-ban/

Quote:
In a recent interview Bychkova revealed for the first time she was slammed with a 18-month suspension from the sport after engaging in a fight with another player. The incident took place following her match against Slovakia’s Kristina Kucova at an ITF $100,000 event in Nanjing

“In the third set Kuchova began to suffer from convulsions (cramps). But according to the rules, you cannot call a doctor for convulsions and you cannot lie on the court for five minutes. However, she lay on the court for several minutes, then the supervisor came, who said that it was not a seizure, which means that a break was needed. He clearly sympathized with her,”

Kuchova returned to the match and immediately began to serve powerfully, kick the ball and move well. She was released psychologically, but on the contrary, I was shackled.”

“I was asked to take a walk for 20-30 minutes. Suddenly this beauty floats past me, cheerful. I broke down and started a fight,” she said.
“Two days later, the supervisor announced to me that our fight was on camera. It was a hostel on the court grounds, not an official hotel, and in fact the fight did not take place on the territory of the tournament.”

Now at the age of 35 she has decided to give playing professional tennis another go. This week she played her first match in five years at an ITF event in Moscow where she lost in the first round to world No.611 Anastasia Tikhonova.
They need to release the video!

She def looks like a chick who'd start a fight.

Spoiler:

Shapo has big weapons but he'll need better defensive skills and to choke less if he's going to hang with the top 10 on the regular.

Super strong field in Rotterdam next week, as usual. Medvedev, Tsitsipas, Rublev, Zverev, Sinner, Opelka, FAA, Khachanov, De Minaur. Also some popular olds: Murray, Tsonga, Nishikori.

Fed is on the entry list for Doha the week after.
