FAA wiping the floor with Shapo was surprising.

Just caught up there, wonder what they said.

FWIW he’s now gone favourite to win the thing.

I had Medvedev winning when I filled out my bracket. He had the softest draw of any of the contenders. I think 2nd week should be interesting, or at least more interesting than usual.

Def worried about my thiem to win his quarter bet. Everyone talking about the courts being faster this year, that would help Dimitrov for sure. Vax should beat Milos (for the 12th time in a row) as long as he's not actually hurt. No crowds definitely helps Vax avoid the butthurt of being unloved.

Mug-Osaka potentially the best women's match of the tournament. Swiatek-Halep could be good but they've both been in shaky form.

Gonna check out FAA-Karatsev to see if the russian can keep up his hot streak.

I’d still fancy Thiem, he’s got over the hoodoo of the maiden slam.

some great women's matches today. Shame Osaka v Muguruza met in the 4th round, Serena winning in 3 over Sabalenka, Swiatek v Halep looks like going to a 3rd.

Semis look like 1-Barty v 5-Svitolina and 3-Osaka v 10-SWilliams, unless Halep/Swiatek can beat Serena.

In the men's, 114th ranked Russian Karatsev to make a semi? Meets Theim-killer Dimitrov in the QF. I'd be happy if the eventual winner was not Djokovic or Nadal.

Raonic is going to need to serve way better than this to even have a slight chance.

Sofia Kenin on her way home to get some mental therapy. The reigning Australian Open winner and French Open finalist lost today in the WTA250 Phillip Island Trophy to unranked wildcard Olivia Gadecki who has $2,189 in career earnings. Career high ranking 988 in August 2019 before sliding to 1032 in October 2019 before dropping out of the top 1400 where she remains to this day.

Reminds me of Osaka's mental issues a couple years ago, hopefully Sofia can get past this (and put some distance between her and her father).

Playing against Novax and he’s giving you a chance in the second serve, you’ve got to be more aggressive.

This is over

Still think it’s over. These two have no personality on the court what so ever.

I’m missing the opening points after the break on Eurosport, anyone else getting that?

Still a bunch of great shots there in the end. Just saw the 4th set. That one rally in the last game was class, absolutely love tennis when its like that.

He should beat Zverev and the semi is easier now due to no Thiem. And then he’ll get a full 3 days off before the final. He’ll be ok.

I didn't see the match and it's certainly a big upset but:
1. Gadecki is a decent prospect and much better than her ranking, she's a big hitter which Kenin always struggles with. Also the total points in the match Kenin 119 Gadecki 118.
2. There is 0% chance Kenin dumps her father as her coach anytime soon. It took Jelena Dokic until her mid 20s to start gaining some independence from her WOAT father.

Kenin needs to improve her return game and defensive skills. She's the worst returner in the top 50. It was probably a bad idea to even play this tournament 2 days after getting knocked out of a slam.

I don't get why people are buying that he's not right, he does this every single tournament.

One second he's moving around like he's doing a piece for the gymnastics, able to make several shots in a row without any issue what so ever. Then oh my toe hurts for approx 1-2 shots max. Then back to stretching, running around etc

He'll be fine, Zverev is hardly going to cause him any issues.

All mind games. Works well and he gets an edge doing it. Its a good tactic.

I'm not in a professional tennis player's body, I'm not going to start speculating about mind games when i have no clue what he's feeing.

What I know is he looked very much below his level last 2 games and I'm guessing he's not dropping sets just for the fun of it.

Market also seems to believe it, no way would "normal djokovic" be +300 with thiem already out

To me he does look to be moving slightly worse than normal during most points. He's at like 95%. Which is still easily good enough for him to beat the likes of Raonic and Fritz. Zverev will be more of a test, but with Zverev's form and this being a slam, Vax is still clearly the favorite. I think he'll need to be 100% to beat Medvedev, or 97.5% to beat Nadal.

I turned off the FAA-Karatsev match after 2 sets . I guess I'll have to download and watch later. In his last match over Schwartzman I noticed my gf Aleks Krunic sitting in his box, so that must be the reason for his amazing results.

I can't understand how anyone thought it was a good idea for Kenin to play another tournament immediately after the Kanepi loss. She could barely get through the press conference:

I was always confident that Naomi Osaka would get over her mental issues and go on to win more big tournaments. I'm much less confident that Sofia Kenin can do likewise.

Novak has given up a set to Tiafoe, 2 to Taylor Fritz, and one to Raonic.

It seems he's playing a lower quality game than he usually does here.
