FAA is #33 in the live ranking. He has almost no points to defend until RG, he'll get a seed if he does anything during the euro clay season.

He's also been forced to play qualifiers up to this point. It'll help him it if he can now just get straight entires.

MRW I see that both Isner & the Bryan Bros are 1 match away from the finals & attempting to defend their titles from last year:

Isner vs FAA tomorrow. That'll be interesting.

Fed through with a beat down of Kevin Anderson. El Shapo through after beating Tiafoe.

Barty in the Singles final & the doubles semifinal is pretty damn awesome. I think facing Isner will be a bit of a shock for FAA, and I think Isner will take it, he's just playing so clutch in TBs and FAA can have lapses in his own service.

This is one of those Men's Semis where I don't really mind who gets through or loses though. Isner defending his title, FAA/Shapo likeable NextGen, and Fed still obliterating people, the only person who has given him a match was Albot(Q)

Yeah, I think FAA will struggle in his first (to my knowledge) match against one of the tier one servers in the game.

The thing about playing a guy like Isner is that there is essentially no one to practice against that can mimic what he does.

Obviously it's not insurmountable, but it's like a baseball player that's never faced a pitcher than can throw a 100mph fastball. It's a new hurdle to deal with that can't be practiced against because so few people can do it.

That all being said, I hate Isner.

I don't have any love for his game as a whole either. I do have a lot of respect for him putting up a really solid title defense so far, with all his wins in straight sets, and breaking Ramos-Vinolas twice in a set where Isner got broken first. Edmund choked a bit in their 1st set TB they played, but other than that it's just been smooth sailing for him, winning many TBs handily without facing set point.

im not a die hard or anything by any means...but im curious why does alex zverev struggle so much in the bigger tournaments? is it a combination of the "big stage" or "pressure" or is it just a random bad day on the court? he seems to have a good ranking so its kinda weird from a casuals perspective why he struggles so much.

rankings dont mean much... seem to mean even less on the womens side

Zverev is young, and there are a lot of quality players on the tour

I don't think he /his game distinguishes itself much... he doesnt do anything in particular at some prodigious level, unmatched by his peers

im not a diehard either... just getting into tennis really.. when I was young, I'd watch the odd McEnroe match, now I like watching whatever tennis is on

Milos? i assume they've faced each other a bit through the years
if only at Davis Cup practice or whatever

unless Isner is significantly different in some way?

Damn Felix serves for both sets and loses 7-6 7-6. Good call ITT on playing Isner who is pretty unique in how he plays. That being said Felix won 7 matches in this tournament and the mental energy spent surely caught up with him today. His time will come and soon. He's the real deal.

Has to be said that Gilbert did a fantastic job of breaking this match down. If you watched this week with the other the announcers it was like night and day. You may not like him but he is a genius coach.

FAA true prophet potential report?

What is going on in Canada btw? They didn't have tennis courts until 10 years ago and now look.

Final TB of Bryan/Bryan v Kubot/Melo was an utter chokefest. Bryans got up 2 minibreaks, 5-2, end up down 6-9. Then Kubot double faults on 9-8, and double faults later on match point as well

We'll name the 2020 thread after him and that will be that. Back to the drawing board on the next superstar.

Olderer status: not quite dead yet

shame the draw wasn't the other way around with Shapo meeting Isner
feel like he might have done better there

oh well, onward & upward...

Shapo just star struck. He's essentially throwing the match

mouthing shiite to his corner during the changeover like he's facing some indomitable force, when he's just over-hitting shots and playing like garbage

Shapo played some great points in the 2nd and still got utterly worked by Federer in some of them anyways. Notwithstanding that, Shapo was still mostly a mess, missed out on a great break opportunity, and regularly making big misses, including what felt like almost half of his slices going into the bottom half of the net.

Fed will not have an easy go of it tomorrow if his first serve % is similar to tonight.

FAA serving for the first set and hitting three DF was unbelievable. Can't hate on the kid too much though, guess I'll have to root for Fed now

Roger is just ridiculous.

Still somewhat frustrating that Thiem went on that heater in last weeks final. Would have been ridiculous to win the sunshine double at this stage.

Isner has a chance to make it 34 different winners in 34 ATP/WTA events this year.

Spoiler:
he won't
