Epic collapsing is normal for Begu tho. She once lost a tiebreak up 6-0 to Schiavone, on grass.

Bianca beat her in the first round of IW in 3 sets. The better player won both times, it's as simple as that.

Errani beat Begu at a challenger last week despite hitting 22 DFs. I mean, think about Errani's serve, and imagine her hitting 22 DFs and still winning in 2 sets.

Just tuned in to the Grandstand court, within 10s Kyrgios says "I don't get why the refs get multiple times to f*ck up." Then it cut to commercial break. I wanted more!

Andreescu/Kerber rematch tomorrow should be pretty good. Also, Kecmanovic/Tiafoe should be an interesting one, both very young players, Tiafoe not doing too well since AO, should be a fun watch. Also, Opelka/Schwartzman will prob be funny, just due to a 6'11" battling a 5'7" player.

Osaka is being sued by a former coach, claiming her dad signed a contract when she was 14 that would give him 20% of her career earnings for life: https://www.tmz.com/2019/03/18/naomi...-tennis-coach/

Also great news for humanity: Serena withdrew.

Andreescu plays a half moon ball or lob shot a lot when the opponent is at the baseline. She's really good at getting it to bounce 1-4 feet from the baseline kicking up high with a lot of top spin forcing her opponent back 10-15 feet behind the line and often hitting it at an awkward shoulder height. Why have I not seen anyone else really attempt this shot before as it seems really effective at getting your opponent on the defensive really far back in the court?

Is it just other players aren't consistent enough at getting it to land close to the baseline without going out?

It's a standard wta move, although some do it better than others.

Kerber catching a lot of flak for calling Andreescu the “biggest drama queen ever” at the net after losing to her again yesterday.

Why can't the ATP guys do it? Is a player with a free easy forehand he can hit from a stand still, but 15 feet behind the baseline really likely to do all that much with it? Even more so when you consider how high it bounces and it's not really in their wheelhouse even when they are 15 feet behind the baseline.

1) the men hit much much harder so it's more difficult to hit the moonball shot you're referring to initially without it sailing long.

2) the men are more capable of just crushing it back at you on the up-bounce if you do land the moonball.

3) the other obvious answer as to why this isn't a much used tactic is that people can just hit the shot you're describing back at you.

Ultimately players feel they have a better chance of winning the point by attempting to win with other more aggressive shots rather than to try to get into a "who can hit the most lobs in a row" contest.

I know you're asking about this in earnest so I'm not trying to be snarky, but that's the basic answer.

In low level rec tennis people can't really hit overheads, like they literally don't have the skill to hit it. And as such, I have seen exchanges where players are literally just popping it up at each other trying to get it to land in the middle of the court. It's hilarious and embarrassing to the players. But old dudes that suck don't care and a win is a win.

Yeah.. I saw a time or two, Kerber just responded in kind. One lob followed immediately by another.

Couldn't discern what she said at the time and neither could the commentators lol poor Kerber was bent after being bent over in that 3rd set.

Andreescu is awesome. lol Kerber. Maybe don't suck as much at serving if you don't want to lose to a capable opponent.
