Also, saw the stat that this is Del Potro going for his 10th career win vs. #1 ranked players. I wonder if he has the record for most wins vs number 1 players for a guy whose never been #1 himself.

That seems a terrible call against Nadal. He hit the ball while someone was calling it out imo point should be replayed.

Kinda sad to have it end with a retirement, though it was a foregone conclusion. Hope Djoko/Nishikori delivers.

it will. I think Nish is gonna surprise, not necessarily win, but it'll be fun to watch

Nadal thinking longterm. Gotta stay ahead of Djokovic for all time slams, helping Del Potro be fresh for the finals to make Novak work for it.

No but seriously this last generation had such clear player groupings.

Federer-Nadal-Djokovic (any order)

Murray

Wawrinka-Del Potro

Everyone else.

If Delpo didn't have wrist issues early in his career he'd be there with Nadal, Fed and Joker

Just about looking like vintage Novak. Placing the ball on the other side of the court to almost any location he chooses

For club players it’s generally a good idea to receive first since most players at this level don’t have a super strong serve and it gives you a leg up and applies more pressure to opponent if you can capture that first game.

Also when receiving it’s expected the server will hold so no matter what the outcome is of the first game the net effect is either neutral at worst or positive at best

He's been hurt a while now. The functioning Bryan and Sock won the Wimbledon doubles together.

I think that makes Sock a 2 time winner, as he won with Pospisil a few years ago, IIRC.

This interview with Chevy Chase is so painful.

he's old. He did mention Bill Murray talking about chinch bugs to salvage the interview imo

What's crazy is Murray and Chase famously hated each other at this time.

The story goes, the director (ghostbuster Egan) Harold Ramis was like "we don't have a single scene in the entire movie with the two funniest people together. Even though they hate each other IRL, let's try one scene and see how it goes."

That scene is the one Chevy was referencing.

Nishikori so done.

Loved the Fletch reference from Chase though.

Both semifinal matches pretty meh.

Delpo/Novak final Sunday at 2pm American mountain time.

No matter who wins it will be intersecting. Either Delpo wins a second major 9 years after his first (US Open 2009), or Novak shows he's back for real with 2 straight Grand Slams after a lackluster 2017 and first half of 2018.

Looks like their career head to head is 14 wins for Novak, 4 wins for Delpo.

Last match was the 2017 Rome clay M1000; Novak won 6-1, 6-4.

Before that was the 2017 Indian Wells M1000, Novak won in three sets.

Novak also beat him in the 2017 Acapulco, which I think is a 500 level, in 3 sets.

The last noteworthy match was the 2016 Olympics. Delpo beat Novak in an earlier round in straight sets (albeit both were in tiebreaks).

Previous matches before that were in 2013 and earlier, and I don't care about them.

Delpo has this cheering squad in one of the suites. I wonder if they’re friends of his from Argentina and who’s paying for that suite. Big bucks
