Yeah, tell yourself before the match "it is a good day to die," then go for a winner on every shot.

You might pull a Wawrinka and bink one.

In a Sunny day I'd lob the ball every single time the first 2 sets and hope he gets blind when 3rd set starts

Kick his water bottles over.

Never do the same about of ball bounces before a serve.

Call out the score yourself like a rec player.

Raise your hand randomly while he's in his service motion.

Have Kakkinakis bone his girl.

Granollers was up a set and 5-1, and lost to Goffin, 6-4, 6-7 (7-2), 2-6.

Super lol. Reminds me of my rec league career.

Klizan beat Novak in three.
6-2, 1-6, 6-3.

Nishikori retires in his match in the first set.

Dimitrov moves on.

It should be noted this a 500 level event. Novak got bounced in the early round of a sub M1000.

Dude should just call it a day and play minor league baseball or something.

How quickly he has gone from nigh unbeatable to this. Not even that old. Maybe cycled off.

It's also the standard age progression for someone who is about to turn 31 years old.

Federer and Nadal are just making people forget that.

You're suggesting some magic thing happened between being 30 and being 31 that makes him suck?

He goes from being the overall number 1 for YEARS, to being a middle of the pack guy, and you're explanation is "oh, he dropped off instantly because he got a year older."

No way, dude. I think his brain is broken. It's all mental. There's nothing wrong with him physically (although maybe his wrist injury or whatever it was was worse than he has let on?).

He dropped off due to injuries, which happens more as you age, especially after 30. Although he seems mainly recovered, he's not quite the same, and he's old now, in historical tennis terms. Some may be mental as well, but at least some is definitely physical.

I don't think it's all mental. Novak is spent, some people's bodies can only do so much. He's squeezed all the juice he can out of those lemons.

Right. Also, some people do instantly drop off due to injuries, which, even if not career-ending, they never completely come back from. Not only in tennis, but in other sports as well.

Once he finally won the French that was him for me. The huge mental challenge of winning it. If Murray beat him in that final, I reckon he bounces back and wins Wimbledon or US. I don’t think he has the same love for the game as Roger or Rafa. Possibly not the same level of WIM either. The he’s got the injury and it probably just seems like a drag for him now.

Climbed the mountain syndrome. "Okay, I did it. Now what?"

Agassi always claimed to hate tennis, which is why it seemed he might have something to add to the coaching staff for Novak. But I guess not.

Tennis is so weird. Nadal won the first set vs Klizan 6-0, then the second set was 7-5, making it the closest set he's had in ages.

Also Thiem lost, and Grigor Dimitrov lost.

Rafa going to win everything this clay court season.

Thiem is the most over rated player I can remember.

wrt Novak, I don't think you can underestimate the psychological effect that starting a family has on an athlete, particularly one who has achieved all their goals in the sport and/or made enough money to retire.

Of course, all the crazy fad diets that don't provide sufficient nutrients for recovery can't help either.

Is he though? Not sure anyone rates him particularly highly.

Yeh, yeh they do. Twitter and other tennis forums rate him highly - the next main man on clay. Rafa rival etc

David Law has him as one of the best clay court players around as well.

Even if he were much better than he is, lol at anyone saying Rafa rival, or using the word rival for any of the young guns.

There are no young rivals for Rafa and Fed, just a bunch of guys trying to break through who haven't.
