The thing I don't understand about Federer is why is he winning all these slams now, instead of from 2010-2016. Is the 2017/2018 edition of Federer somehow better than the 2010 one? If Federer wins this AO, he'll have won 3 out of the last 4 slams he's entered, whereas before that he won 2 out of the previous 26. Was there something about turning 35 that made him great again?
Or is the truth that Fed is an expert and absolute specimen at longevity and making sure to be in the right place at the right time so he can take advantage. Sometimes that means playing at an insane level and winning the 2017 AO over many great competitors. Sometimes that means skipping the French Open so he can prepare for grass much longer than any of his rivals and give himself the best chance at Wimbledon. And sometimes, like this year, that is getting very lucky and having to only beat a bunch of scrubs to get to the final.
No, he's a better player. Genuinely. He's improved his game.
He got a bigger racquet head a couple of years ago for his backhand and worked on it with Edberg. He now attacks on it rather than that stupid slice to Rafa forehand.
He's also added things into his game like SABR.
