Chung a little loose and nervous early. He's got the game to hang in there with Roger, just needs to settle down a bit.

I think its a great start for Chung. The break stinks but he can get into Federer service games. The way to beat Federer is to make him work holding serve and prolong the match.

He just needs to find a way to hold his own serve.

This is nerve racking. Don’t feel confident. 2-0 up though. Just need the great man to settle down a bit.

Thought that game was going to go on for ever there. Did Chung even get an adv? Seemed to go adv fed every time.

Fed gets to the final of a GS beating 4 unseeded players, the #29 seed and the #19 seed. Really bad edition of the tournament this year, especially if Chung continues to choke like this. Hasn't been a good match since the quarters.

Nice to see Chung give Fed a chance in this match before Chung decides to house him.

Better to retire than to be humiliated for 2 hours by 180kmh sliced serves in the deuce court.

Shame for us, though I cleared my work schedule today so I could laptop / tennis is it on my sofa!

WIM of a baked potato that, retiring because of a bloody blister. JFC.

I remember Rafa taking his socks of a while back and his feet where covered in them. I’d imagine all players are similar. Gotta battle through.

I like how it’s feds fault that Murray, Novak and Rafa have all hurt themselves. That the titled of this thread can’t beat Kyle bloody Edmund over 5 sets. Zverev tilts and hands the last two sets to Chung.

He can only beat the guys that are in front of him. He’s 36 ffs and still getting into slam finals. Give the goat some credit.

Im wondering if there is more to this injury? I can’t see how you can pull out for a blister at this stage, adrenaline alone would ease that.

Seems like faking an injury to not get humiliated by the GOAT is the new standard play.

Old man Fed on his zimmer frame still the best on tour. Lol which was a worse tournament this, Wimbledon or the US Open?

Salty. Kingweed already addressed this, and it bears further examination. It's not Fed's fault that all the other players wet the bed bc they sucked or were injured. Misplaced blame, it's on all the other players who lost earlier, not Fed.

All of the top players had easy paths until they lost. Thiem beat 2 unseeded players & the #26, then lost to an unseeded player. Zverev beat 2 unseeded players, then lost to an unseeded player. Dimitrov beat 2 unseeded players & the #30 & #17, then lost to an unseeded player. Djokovic beat 2 unseeded players & the #21, then lost to an unseeded player. Nadal beat 2 unseeded players & the #28 & #24, then lost to the #6. Wawrinka beat an unseeded player, then lost to an unseeded player. Del Potro beat 2 unseeded players, then lost to the #19. Querrey beat an unseeded player, then lost to an unseeded player. Your frustration should be with all those guys, not Fed.

So, not in 2 matches? We get it, yes the men's semis were disappointing, but there were some exciting and interesting matches throughout the tournament, on both the men's and women's sides.

And Rafa v Cilic was good and competitive until Rafa hurt himself. Just because he had to pull out didn’t mean it wasn’t a good competitive match. Cilic is a slam winner and been in other slam finals too. So it’s not as if he’s just a random unseeded player.

Well, that was disappointing.

But now all that's left is for the goat Raja to close this out and collect his pile of cash and the giant cereal bowl trophy.

Tried to warn you pre-tourney, not to get your hopes too high. The Olds may very well win every single GS this year.

Yes, Cilic is a worthy GS Finalist. I would have preferred Rafa vs Fed, of course, and I'm not saying that it's going to be a great Final (although I hope so), but Cilic is more worthy than any of the young guys.

Zverev status confirmed nobody. He's the new Raonic at best.

He's 20 years old. Federer didn't make it past the QF of a Slam until he was 22.

Is there a better regarded ranking system focused more on results at Grand Slams? It's hard to take the ATP rankings seriously where Dimitrov/Zverev/Thiem/Goffin take up 4 of the top 8 spots with an average of one semifinal appearance in their careers.

Like I'd want to see something like regardless of any lack of recent activity:

1. Nadal (ATP 1)
2. Federer (ATP 2)
3. Djokovic (ATP 14)
4. Murray (ATP 19)
5. Wawrinka (ATP 8)
6. Cilic (ATP 6)

With the current system we could see Nadal/Murray or Federer/Djokovic in the third round this year which is just insane. This is how stuff happens like Sampras wins as the #17 seed, because Haas was the #3 seed which is goofy.

I haven't looked into tennis rankings in a while, but the common opponents framework suggested it was more accurate than ATP rankings in terms of "real rankings"

You could do it based on prize money which would mean you'd have

1. Rafa
2. Roger
3. Dimitrov
4. Zverev
5.

Basically the same as the ATP rankings.

Then you'd have to do it over a 2 year period which would then end the year end number one etc

Or, for slams seeds do it over a 2 year period as they some times change the seeding order from the rankings as they have a bit more leeway. Just copied into a spread sheet and came up with this:-
  1. Murray 14,700
  2. Novak 14,365
  3. rafa 13,945
  4. Roger 11,735
  5. Stan 8,465
  6. Cilic 7455
  7. Thiem 7430
  8. Raonic 7245
  9. dimitrov 7185
  10. kei 6790
  11. zverev 6265
  12. monfils 4,640

Then you'd still have the problem of, Murray not playing. Novak/Stan struggling after coming back from 6 months off. Rafa hurting himself.

Your semi final things is another thing that's the issue with that is that no one really has been in semi finals apart from the big four and a few others.

Semi finals:-
Roger 43
Novak 31
Rafa 26
Murray 21

Stan 9
Berd 7
Ferrer 6
Jo willy 6
Delpo 4
Cilic 4
Raonic 3
Gasquet 3
Dimitrov 2
Kei 2
Anderson 1
Gulbis 1
Janowicz 1

So it's basically the big 4 and 1 other or 2 if someone goes on a heater.
