Djokovic is just too damn good.

Exactly. That’s why it should be the ump call not the players. Obviously being extreme here, if you put it in the players hands, flashes from cameras or people standing up - although not allowed - do they stop for that?

Ridiculous to let him make that call there. Can’t just stop and say X just happened. You have to make it the umps call and only his/her call. Again obviously depending on the situation, a person enters the court or somebody falls over onto the court - extreme examples them you can let the player have the benefit of doubt if you will and play the let.

Just the fact that he noticed it to stop the point means that it obviously drew his attention to noticeable degree and therefore replaying the point seems like the only correct outcome.

Also you keep talking as if this was only the player's decision. If the umpire didn't consider it a legitimate reason for a let then he could have simply given Federer the point. The whole slippery slope argument you seem to be making is pretty ridiculous.

When they showed the angle Zverev was seeing it from you can see why it was a legit distraction-- from Zverev's viewpoint he was looking at the actual ball zooming towards him and the dropped ball in the background. It would def be a distraction.

A completely unrelated question but why does the ball boy hold his arm straight up in the air with the ball in his hands? Can't he just chuck it to underhand like a normal person would? Or at least bend his elbow slightly?

29 shot second point.

Zverev needs to a bit more depth on his shots - goes long to go behind 40-15

Zverev hitting him off the court here.

Jinxed him, Novak away to rattle of a few games here.

Triple edit, okay maybe he is. Novak normal wins these rallies with ease.

I genuinely wouldn’t have thought it but I can now feel this is the changing of the guard.

This is the start of it, 2 years in a row neither of the big 3 have won this tournament. I still reckon they’ll win the 4 slams but the M1000 will be a mix bag next year, i’ll Go with Young’s winning more than olds for them.

I still need to see Zverev show up in a big 5 set match before I proclaim 2019 the Year of the Zverev. I'm on board with Year of the Khachanov tho.

I agree. It's weird how he had so much success, but basically none at any of the grand slams.

Zverev has all the tools; I think he'll put it together in a slam next year and make a semifinal or two.

Khachanov could be the wave of the future, though, himself. He looks real good. And let's not forget El Shapo. Dude is just getting better and better.

This is actually a great question. There's nine M1000 events, so the Youngs would need 5, although that's assuming we're cheating and going with Big 3 vs Everyone Else (i.e. Delpo and Isner or whatever would count for the Youngs).

For reference, the big 4 (including Murray) won the following M1000s

2018: 5 (zero for Fed)
2017: 5 (3 were Fed)
2016: 8
2015: 9 (6 were Novak)
2014: 7
2013: 9 (5 were Nadal)
2012: 8
2011: 9 (5 were Novak)
2010: 6 (this is so far back Andy Roddick won one)

I've posted before that I think Federer is not gonna win any more slams. My prediction in 2019 is that Djokovic wins 2, Rafa wins the French, and someone outside the big 3 will win one.

Fed and Murray both done. I would add Wawrinka to that category as well. Also Delpo.

3 guys that have won multiple slams (and Delpo) that will never win again.

Who wins another slam first:

Fed, Murray, Stan, Delpo

or

Anyone that's not Novak/Nadal...

Aussie Open odds up on Bookmaker.

Djokovic +125
Federer +550
Nadal +600
Zverev +1000
Del Potro +2100
Cilic +2600
Khachanov +3500(Just put $25 to win $875 on that lol )

It's either Djokovic or one of the young guns imo.

Serena is +500 and all the other women are +1K or higher. Like Osaka at +1000.

There's renewed talk in the media of making the men's grand slams into best of 3 events.

Also, it's almost time for the 2019 thread. Who are we going to curse this year?

No thanks. I don’t want more variance.

I understand it’s a grind for the guys. But it’s only 4 per year plus whatever DC garbage they want to play.

I love tennis off season because all the female players take their trips to their lavish islands.

****ing bikini season is so legit! I think I'm in love with Naomi Broady.

Who gets the 2019 thread title hmmmmmmmm... the return of Muzz?

They need to **** off and not ruin slams. Keep them 5 setters.

Keep women at 3, or even better run them at separate times

The obvious person is of course, Zverev the Younger (ranked 5). But there's some wild card options.

El Shapo (27), Khachanov (11), Thiem (8), Nishikori is back in the top 10 at (9), the new Brit on the block Kyle Edmund is (13).

Old favorite Fognini is (14), up and comer Tsitsipas is (15).

Plus, of course, we could always do to some female player what we did to Genie when we made her the 2p2 favorite....

So many options! It almost feels like we need a poll on who to saddle with the immense pressure of representing us.
