Others are more favored by the odds, but I think Delpo has as good a shot as anyone outside the Big 4 to win a GS in the next year.

Concur, looking forward to Miami. Fed needs to win it to remain #1?

For sure. Its basically the big 2 at this point. Possibly big 1 at RG.

Del Potro lived in an era with 4 of the 8 greatest tennis player, and he's still the most fun player to watch

In an alternate universe I want a 10 years Era of GOAT Del Potro/Monfils facing every Grand Slam. No good guy Fed, no strong arms Nadal, no djoker, no Murray, just those 2 showmen fighting over and over

Yup for RG. Big 4 should all hopefully be healthy for Wimbledon and US Open though. They are the top 4 most favored by odds for now, at least.

Cracking game from delpo.

This is match of the year. Probably won’t be topped.
This wasn't exactly true. Fed had missed a number of 1st serves by 3ft or more throughout the match. This to me is a real indicator of an issue and something that the announcers never seem to make reference too and it tilts me to no end. They should know better.

It was a great match I thoroughly enjoyed it. Delpo's forehand is a thing of beauty and probably the best outright weapon in the game.

I'd be perfectly happy to never see Monfils play again. The obsession over him is weird. He crumbles every time a whiff of pressure hits him. Who wants to see that?

In that alternate universe, both are healthy, and Monfils doesn't fade in big moments of course

Monfils when he's playing good has by far the best "floor covering" of any tennis player I've seen and this skill leads to awesome Tennis games that I really enjoy to watch.

Del Potro pure WIM vs that long dude that can run accross the court during 5 hours to save desperate points over and over again would be the nuts

Monfils has made playing some of the best in the game look easy in small spurts. You live with the frustrations he provides as a fan because those moments of clarity for his game are a beautiful thing to watch. He has the ability to play an offensive/defensive game that even a GOAT such as Fed has no answer for.

Their 2014 US Open clash is a perfect example. Not a thing Fed could do over those first two sets because peak Gael cannot be ****ed with but we all knew watching that match if he didn't win it in 3, he was gonna lose it in 5. I'll go through those ugly moments as a fan because I know there are still some really beautiful ones to follow. As a Gael fan you know what you're signing up for, it's all about enjoying the ride.

Still believe him to have great value to go deep in the French too.

in that alternate universe, Stan is The Man and GOAT Swiss male player

Probably has like 10 GS titles too - it helps not having to battle the four horsemen of apocalypse his whole career

I agree that Stan and Delpo would probably be the top 2, and Stan might edge him. Delpo's just been too injured. Mainly competed in 09, 11-13, and now parts of 16-18. Stan was solid and might be dominant w/o B4, from 10-17, maybe even earlier.

Osaka fresh off her first career title having zero regard for Serena Williams in a 1st round Miami beatdown.

Serena created 2 break points and was broken four times. Say goodnight Kevin.

Probably both.

Some context.

Fraud Zverev and Daniil Medeved in a third set at Miami now.

1-1 at the moment.

Fed just gave up the second set to Kokkinakis.

That was the guy that Kyrgios talked about his girl getting banged, right?

Fading Fed finally paid. Haven't seen him lose to a random while following since Stakhovsky. I'm a periodic observer tho.

Zverev had hype as a phenom.

I mean variance is expected in women's tennis (Halep and Wozniacki are both eliminated). But in men's tennis it has shot through the roof since the golden age ended

Federer, Djokovic are out in the 2nd round. Nadal and Murray aren't playing. Goffin also lost in the second round. Seems that these tournaments are anybody's game nowadays. A good thing in a way since things aren't too predictable but also sad because the quality of play drops a bit.

Yeah but don't forget a week ago Fed played Delpo in the final of the biggest non-slam tourney of the year.

My take is that Kokk banged Mirka.

These back to back 1000's (IW/Miami) on hard courts are a real grind on the players especially the top ones. It really should be changed, it's an old topic but it hurts the Miami product imo.

My man elShapo beat (24)Dzumhur today 6-1, 7-5 . Be nice to get himself into a seeded position by Wimbledon. (now #46) A good run here would go a long way. Should be quite achievable seeing as he is not defending any points really up until August in Canada when I see him top20 easily. Querrey up next.

Zverev is only 20 he still could still be great. While he has lost some matches in the last few months that he should have won, he still has the tools (athleticism, precise shotmaking) and the time to learn how to use them to win.

Gutted Roger is out, anyone know what the story is with the clay season? Is he going to bother?

It's weird not having any of the big guns in at this stage. Good chance for some to rack up a few titles in the next year or so.

Novak Djokovic out and Andy Murray missing the tournament due to injuries, it marked the first "big" tournament (Grand Slam, Tour Finals, Masters 1000) since the 2006 Hamburg Masters that none of the Big Four members were able to pass their opening round.
