Tennis channel been showing classic Wimby matches. Watched the classic Fed v Nadal and Fed v Andy. I still can't believe the powers above didn't give that one to Andy. He straight set destroys any other tennis player on the planet that day. 6-2 in the ****ing 2nd set tiebreak!!!!

Roger v Rafa final please. Don't think there has ever been one at F.M. beating Rafa for 20 would just be unbelievable.

Wins a couple of the 1000s events and he could be #1 again.

JFC if he does it

I can't say for certain, but my memory was Rafa and Fed have never even met at all in the US Open.

Question I posed to my Dad- Is it possible that Agassi is the GOAT that never was? I don't mean to ask is he actually the greatest tennis player of all time but what I mean is- I feel like it's pretty generally (and correctly) asserted that this is the golden age of tennis. Fed GOAT, Nadal/Djokovic closely trailing etc. But then when people start to try to bring players from past generations into the mix you hear Laver, McEnroe, Borg, and of course Sampras, but you never really hear Agassi. I've been rewatching a bunch of old tennis highlights and interestingly enough I think Agassi has the best and most modern game. I know Sampras had great hands around the net and a big forehand, but he was so hugely reliant on getting an abundance of free points off his serve that was way before his time, and I think if you put him in today's game- where all the greats are stretching as wide as ever on returns and returning deeper & more consistent- his results would fall off a decent amount. Otoh I think Agassi's skill (he's basically Djokovic 1.0, or should I say Novak is Agassi 2.0) holds up in today's game closer than anyone in past generation and that itself should put him in the conversation, if not at the head of the conversation. Is that crazy?

Part of being GOAT is mental. Agassi had lots of head case issues. So even assuming everything you said is true, which I wouldn't concede, Agassi still had lots of mental issues.

Plus he was on crystal meth.

It's pretty simple. Agassi is not the GOAT and does not deserve to be in the GOAT conversation as of now.

Back in his time, he was speculatively in the conversation, esp in '99 after he attained a Career Slam, people thought that if he kept winning he could perhaps be the GOAT. He had the talent to be in the conversation, but he didn't win enough, so he's not.

Word.

Zverev the Younger on now. Second highest win total on the tour this season (40 to Nadal's 46).

Playing the wily veteran servebot Kevin Anderson.

This is a good answer, although once he got his **** together and wasn't punting matches to Michael Chang so he didn't have to Face Boris Becker he seemed like a mental warrior on the court. Again I'm not arguing he should be in the GOAT discussion, I'm asking if it's possible that if you put all former legends in a time machine and forced them to play in today's era, if his game would hold up the best.
