Compilation of Shearer goals, can't add it to the video directory for some reason.

Im not sure its obvious, but that might be me biased by homerism or trying to not be a homer.

Either way, this isn't like the cricket drafts were whoever gets Bradman wins, as long as you don't pick Ali Dia you should have a reasonable shot of putting together a winning side.

Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

Shearer is quickly becoming underrated as a player for his sheer idiocy as a pundit but in his prime (those seasons at Blackburn) he was incredibly good. I had him at No 2 as well.

I am glad Poppins has gone, it means me and my co-manager (he is Goose to my Maverick, obv) won't have to come to e-blows on our first selection.

His prime was ludicrously good. 112 in 138 for Blackburn.

It pained me choosing Shearer, being an ex-bastard and all, but the PL all time top goalscorer was the obvious pick.

Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

**** it

Pick 3

Spoiler:

Spoiler:

GOAT player. Had a nice upside but of course its the longevity we are taking here. 24 seasons. 24. 2. 4. Twenty Four. Twenty. Four. Most titles etc etc. In his prime, dazzling and quick winger.

The goal that inspired chants and banners

Team:

Ryan Giggs.

Not a bad pick I don't think. I imagine wing is going to be the shallowest position.

Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

Can someone confirm whether we have to use 4-4-2? Probably will anyway as it is the formation that the PL made its name on, and the league has become considerably less entertaining since it was abandoned but still.

Just post undrafted because who ever drafts next there is only person they can pick next, unless Marty is drafting next in which case ignore post.

Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

shearer and giggs both bad

like the literal op states its a per game basis, this isn't a lifetime achievement award.

As said earlier in the thread, Shearer's peak he was one of the best strikers in the world. Giggs I think you have more of an argument about but I think career length/time spent in the league has to factor into decisions otherwise real high level of recency bias.

Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

I'm inclined to agree with fanerio. If the aim is to draft the ultimate team based on the best ever premiership players in each position, I'm not taking either Giggs or Shearer. Henry is straight in there though.

Shearer fine, was legit top forward for his time. Couldn't pick Giggs this high in current format as I think there's a better player in his position(s) in all the eras he played.

Just curious - why is their a rule about which formation you have to use? The game is to draft the best team - how you would deploy them would be factored into their power rating.

Because people like PBAL think it's still funny to make 4-4-2 jokes I guess.

I have at least 4 current Arsenal players all better than Giggs let alone the rest of the current guys.

Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

Mind you, but Giggs is like 40+ now, I would expect Arsenal to have at least a few players better then him at this point.
