Right midfield's the weakest position depth wise in my opinion, good pick.

I'm a massive Beckham denier, but you certainly got peak Beckham (back when he was actually really good) and yeah, wing seems to be quite scarce so I like this pick.

Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

I'm not really sure how the rest of this is going to go re: position depth and stuff, so it's possible this will turn out to be spewwy, but I'll take Ashley Cole

All-Time English Premiership Draft

Fowlers a good pick imo here, if he got even a half chance you expected him to score and I hate the bloke.

Whilst I don't agree Le tiss's could have gone 9th round. I do think you could justifiably argue a pretty wide range.

One of the hardest to place because he was with a relegation dodger all those years. Most of the others picked we can see what they were like with a solid side around them

****, I'm on the clock now, this is tough...

Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

My selection is.....

Gareth Bale

Still on a phone so will add some links later, but even the youngsters know this one.

Devastating pace, very one footed but fortunately that left foot is extremely good. Set pieces, decent in the air, seems a good sort off the pitch.

Hesitated a bit as I wanted a poacher to go with Eric, but there's lots left I would be happy enough with.

Comment above is fair, I think the wide midfield places have the least depth.

Can't be accused of being old if I show this recency bias. I did wonder whether I was picking on one season only and he is certainly ahead of his prime which is still a few years away, but even then I think the level he got to in the last three years is comparable to any wide player since the start of the prem.

Voted into team of the year by his peers three times, won nothing but be did play for Spurs.

I'm sorry but Gareth Bale will never be anything but a failed left back in my eyes.

Beckham, Cole and Bale all seem good picks from where I'm sitting

Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

agree 100% that wing is scarce

I think Fowler's peak is only behind Henry and Shearer, as far as strikers go.

genius only gets a pass so far imo, problem is his non-highlights are very poor and his off-ball movement didn't exist

Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

Btw since we're in the second round, we're going to start with a Six Hour Clock, changed from the OP since everyone seems to be okay with the speed we're going at so far.

Also, it's nice to keep pm'ing who's up after you, but a reminder that if you're a participant, you need to be checking the thread actively.

Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

Le Tiss was obviously going to be divisive pick. He was a lazy bastard but supremely gifted. Like I said, Southampton went five years where they didn't win a game in which he didn't play which is just facemelting.

Here's a nice quote for you Zee:

Quote:
"The man I absolutely loved watching as a kid was Matt Le Tissier after seeing the highlights of his extraordinary goals.

"His talent was out of the norm. He could dribble past seven or eight players but without speed - he just walked past them. For me he was sensational.

- Xavi

Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

speaking of winners

taking xabi alonso

footballer's footballer, impeccable professional, impeccable player, literally smarter than anyone he played with (at liverpool), a physically strong and technically brilliant central midfield whose speed of thought and understanding of his position and beautiful passing magnified the qualities of the team's stars and hid the deficiencies of its talented british tactically illiterate headless chicken hollywood ballers
