In England Blackburn had opened their chequebook and were comfortably outspending anyone in Scotland. Liverpool dusted off 10m on the likes of Nigel clough and Paul Stewart.

They weren't bringing the overseas players like Serie A was, but to say they had less financial power than Scotland is a nonsense.

Fanerio talking with authority about the 90s and being completely wrong compliments the Joe post beautifully. Part of the Cantona legacy for me is his incerdible month near the end of the 96/97 season where he scored in 6 consecutive games, 4 of which finished 1-0, one was a last minute equaliser in a 1-1 draw with QPR and he also scored the opener in a 3-2 win over Man City.

He carried his team to the title that year and, even though it doesn't count for the purposes of this draft, he finished the season by scoring the only goal in an FA Cup Final win over Liverpool.

Finally. Combined the skill of Bergkamp with the vicious cheating of Keane. We didn't get to see such a combination of skill and mentalness again until Suarez and he just made unconvincing explanations and apologies when caught not insane statements about seagulls.

Love the Cantona pick. That goal he had against Sunderland was what got me to be a United fan. The combination of technique and sheer confidence floored me and him just raising his arms before it went in was brilliant. I wish he had played a bit longer, but I have nothing but love for him.
