You're a decade late Fan. Celtics 'big' signing in 92/93 was Tom Boyd... Rangers bought Trevor Steven from Marseille long past his prime

In England Blackburn had opened their chequebook and were comfortably outspending anyone in Scotland. Liverpool dusted off 10m on the likes of Nigel clough and Paul Stewart.

They weren't bringing the overseas players like Serie A was, but to say they had less financial power than Scotland is a nonsense.

All-Time English Premiership Draft

Sorry edited my undrafteds out! I'll get this sooner or later. I stand by the fact that drog is more replaceable than almost everyone picked so far

Edit. I'm not removing Paul Stewart and Nigel clough, they are not draftable!

Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

JoeDiego listing Scholes as like the 7th most important Utd player of the premier league era is just glorious. Fanerio talking with authority about the 90s and being completely wrong compliments the Joe post beautifully. This page will go down in history as a classic example of perfectly bad football posting!

Assuming JD just forgot about Cantona and to avoid embarrassment is now being stubborn by putting Big Pete > influence wrt trophies Utd won between 92/93-97.

Cantona ruined my first Chelsea watching experience.

4. Players are judged on a "Value Over Replacement Player" kind of philosophy relative to their era.

Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

Part of the Cantona legacy for me is his incerdible month near the end of the 96/97 season where he scored in 6 consecutive games, 4 of which finished 1-0, one was a last minute equaliser in a 1-1 draw with QPR and he also scored the opener in a 3-2 win over Man City.

He carried his team to the title that year and, even though it doesn't count for the purposes of this draft, he finished the season by scoring the only goal in an FA Cup Final win over Liverpool.

What does that post even mean?

Is there a translate tool anywhere to help us 'olds'

I didn't say he could replace him, just that the value drop off was lower. James ****ing Beattie would have got 25 goals in that Chelsea team

Finally. Combined the skill of Bergkamp with the vicious cheating of Keane. We didn't get to see such a combination of skill and mentalness again until Suarez and he just made unconvincing explanations and apologies when caught not insane statements about seagulls.

Great thread. Appreciate the balance between the different eras. Looking forward to learning about players I've never heard of in the later rounds.

That volley in the FA cup final was unreal, how he adjusts his feet while stepping back to rocket that passed everyone on the pitch. Perfection.

Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

Love the Cantona pick. That goal he had against Sunderland was what got me to be a United fan. The combination of technique and sheer confidence floored me and him just raising his arms before it went in was brilliant. I wish he had played a bit longer, but I have nothing but love for him.

I think it's too early for Gerrard and way too early for Cantona.

I pm'ed Marek.
