His career highlights were the flying kick and filling in Leslie Ash. Football was secondary.

I thought you were making a case for Lee Chapman!!

He filled Leslie Ash in, Eric just shagged her!

Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

From a United fan's perspective and ignoring (as I did) the actual tactics of these drafts (such as, don't start with a keeper), the Unitrd player's picked so far should be considered like this:

Keane
Giggs
Schmiechel
Cantona
Ronaldo
Rooney
Scholes

Not interested in reopening the Scholes debate but at no point was he "the man" for United, he was always the most brilliant, talented icing on the cake.

Not sure why everyone loves Drogba so much. If you take away his 09-10 season he's a thoroughly average goal scorer in the PL. Not saying he's a bad player but top 20 OAT?

I hate this **** fwiw, i thought fanerio did a good job at depicting this giant pussy in a sensible manner, btw.

Drogba's intangible of bullying CBs for fun is highly valuable

Scholes was the one who dominated midfield and allowed the others to do their thing. That's why many say he's the toughest they've played against. If he spoke to the media more during his career he'd have won poty rather than say Ginola.

Like I say, I'm not saying Drogba was a bad player. I think he's a good to great one who certainly had moments and seasons of brilliance. 09-10 for instance he was absolutely unplayable. But I guess I'm seeing a lot of sort by goals itt and was just trying to point out that he wasn't the best goal scorer available.

For me, Drogba is a better pick for legacy/length > peak but the majority of the thread seems to think otherwise idk.

Peak or legacy the majority of the thread forget an insane amount of players in the 90s that had higher peaks and bigger legacy than many recent players picked here.

You can interpret the rules of the draft however you want, there are a lot of people who know very little about the premier league other than the last few years and in true 2+2 fashion they are going to double down on saying that the only things worth knowing are the things they already know.

Given that we had a bunch of people post itt to say how they would be following along I'm more interested in trying to introduce those guys to some players they might not know very well than in trying to score points with whoever the current SE experts are supposed to be.

I've seen the premier league since the beginning and I'm going to put a team together that reflects that and leave the 'peak vs career' arguments alone, although it's tempting to take 'undrafted stiker who scored the fastest premier league hat-trick' and argue that he was the undisputed GOAT for 4m 23s and has the highest peak in premier league history.

Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

How is judged a player that had played 15 years in PL with say 6 of them were super high level and 9 of them were terrible?

On the 6 GOAT years, or on average?

Yeah I completely agree, but pick them and there will be cries of lololds. Which is kind of fair in the sense the game has moved on a long way and if you directly swap them into today's game they would struggle, but those aren't the rules of the thread. You can only beat what's in front of you at the time.

Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

the 90s was a time when english players went to scotland for the money, and relative to their peers in the entire football world at the time instead of their peers in a laffably weak league with very few world-class players, those players that ruled epl then would be pretty lol compared to undraftable goats like maldini, batitusta, romario, laudrup, baggio, baresi, fat ronaldo etc etc. a sick epl forward during the time of fat ronaldo was like undrafted dogger

the best of the latter epl holds up against pretty much anything and anyone, not going to name a bunch of names but obv suarez would be immensely sick anywhere.

also sorting DA DROG via goals per game is super dumb and makes u a laffable sorter. remove all the penalties first from other ppl, then add BEASTLINESS and CLUTCH and WIM with a dose of BITCHCAKES, basically he was the best lone striker in 4-3-3 in epl ever due to historically beastly hold-up and link-up play and could also be amazing in any 4-4-2 variants heading crosses, and who can dominates CBs with his physicality and power. Also the opposite of flat track bully, he bummed great teams and good players in big matches.

Not interested in reopening the debate but you'll have your say anyway.

And no from a United's fan perspective that would never be the order spend 10mins on Redcafe and it'd be very clear Scholes would be at an absolute minimum top 2. Xavi has never been "the man" at Barca and Pirlo was never "the man" for Milan either but people who understand football know you need more than blood/guts and thunder to make a quality team.

ehhh no, even a 2nd tier side like Newcastle were capable of breaking the world transfer record in the mid 90's and the league was flooded with foreign talent.

All-Time English Premiership Draft

My dig at Fanerio was a little tongue in cheek, Drogba is probably worthy of a top 20 pick. Even toned down my post a bit, not on to turn up here insulting regs just yet!!

But, if we are thinking about VOA stuff I think Drogba is more replaceable that Eric and a few others as yet unpicked, there have been plenty of players making CBs lives miseries (undrafteds from Scotland Wales and London....) who, whilst not as good as Drogba in his prime year, wouldn't have been that big a drop off in that mourinho system at the time.

Technical gifts and vision that cantona had are far harder to replicate

Cantona is worth the pick just for the GOAT celebration and quote about the seagulls. Absolute steal.
