Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

Is there anywhere where I can see a saved shots on target against stat for BM, would be interested in their league position if you turned 85-90% of those into goals.

City playing well is basically the same as Yaya playing well. Let's hope you buy him a cake though.

I think you're underestimating yourself (unless you're a quadriplegic or something idk).

Dont think that at all, I probably only save 25% of shots in Mining League 1 and that is in no way hyperbole and would assume around the same for most non goalies going in goal. Non goalies will bend down to pick up the slowest of slow balls and somehow fumble it for a goal, or air kick etc, something I have seen hundreds of times.

Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

not even sure he's the biggest jimmy rustler i could've taken, two rustlers truly do so at historically unprecedented wrestling heel levels

one of them is this guy:

as you can see, he epitomises WIM as he is not above sacrificing even his own human dignity for the sake of his team, so no wonder his teammates love him

package also includes unreal physical attributes and unfair skill and power and a brief window as probably the world's best forward. will beast all lolsmalls and lolwhites and lolarsenals, will also allow revolutionary late-game tactic introduced by dutch master lvg of hoofball, but effective instead of ultralol.

somehow must be the only video in youtube that's doesn't have awful music, also sick highlights of DROG BEAST

Im using a massive sample of having watched numerous games where a team that has no goalie has to put random in goal.

In grass roots keeper is by far the most shallow position, no one wants to play keeper, a relatively good keeper is gold dust. A "good" keeper is probably someone who does not gift via lol error more than 10 goals a season.

Lost so many games because the one true keeper could not play that weekend.

You are not drafting managers, I take it? Would be fun to see BAIDS pass up Fergie for a random full back.

Drogba delivers when you need him to. Although not premier league, he scored for Chelsea in like 8/9 finals, all close games. Pure WIM

You are calling me senile but are unable to follow a simple train of conversation .

Ill do it simple pimple for your knuckle dragging intellect.

Baids: OAFK in GOAL, BM still win BL.
Me: What happens if you change shots saved by BM goalie -80/90%
Other: You would save more than that.
Me: No I would not. Only save slightly more than that grass roots.
FAN: I AM A MASSIVE FAQTARD.

Probably still to complex for you, dont want to AIDS up thread, PM for more clarification.

Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

we're taking count suarez

achievements include:

69 goals in 110 PL games, a rate comparable with the likes of henry and shearer and made all the more impressive cos he didnt take the penos. add ~5 goals/year for a true comparison to these people.

did it in pretty ropey pool teams

loads of assists

arguably most productive season in pl history of any player in any position (not arguable tbh, fact)

and most impressive of all, single handedly conned a significant number of people into thinking that brent was some sort of super genius guru. this takes some doing.

lfc is gonna do a proper writeup in his capacity as poolfan

Fanerio king of the pot meet kettle.
the conversation where u bang on about grassroots footy anecdotes in a discussion of VORP of keepers vs outfielders? i'm sure you were building to a crescendo climax of irrefutable logic there

Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

About time Suarez was taken. I mean I did try to read the OP multiple times to have a good understanding of how career/longetivity/sample etc... should be valued or not valued and i'm still not sure to understand but if we are looking at a per game basis then Suarez is basically a top 3 striker in this and arguably even number 1. Pains me to admit it but dude was so unbelievable I couldn't even hate him like I wanted to near the end

Re: All-Time English Premiership Draft

Round 1 Pick 10

Ferguson always knew the importance of a goalkeeper; his Aberdeen team that you youngsters might not know broke the Old Firm monopoly and won the ECWC vs Real Madrid had the well respected Scottish international Jim Leighton guarding the sticks.

When Fergie arrived in Manchester his inherited keeper was the South African veteran Gary Bailey, coming to the end of an erratic but admirable career; but also injured at the 1986 World Cup. Incidentally he was the hero of a young Danish keeper beginning to make his way in the game, both sharing bright blonde hair and an exuberant on-field personality.

With Bailey injured Ferguson had the services of Chris Turner; a competent Yorkshireman that was on the losing side for Sunderland in the '85 League Cup Final but that would go on to win the '91 League Cup against Ferguson's United for Sheffield Wednesday. Turner wasn't the top quality keeper Ferguson was looking for; and as he displayed later with Carroll vs Howard and Lindegaard vs De Gea, Ferguson had Turner share keeping responsibilities with a home-grown keeper called Gary Walsh who would stay at the club until 1995.

After two seasons of average level keepers, Fergie dipped into the market to sign his first keeper: Jim Leighton. An instant success, Leighton conceded 35 in 38 with 15 clean sheets, though the defensive success wasn't matches up front and United only just finished in the top half with 11.

Going into his crucial 4th season Ferguson seemingly had his goalkeeper position set - then came the 1990 FA Cup Final. The underdogs Crystal Palace almost pulled off an upset in a 3-3 draw. Leighton was shaky and Ferguson made the monumental decision to drop him for reserve Les Sealey in the FA Cup Final replay which United won 1-0, winning Ferguson his first trophy and keeping him in the job.

Sealey got the nod for the 90-91 season, where United, though not able to mount the sought after title challenge did win the European Cup Winners Cup beating no less than Barcelona in the final whilst also finishing 2nd in the League Cup. Sealey was a fiery character with plenty of WIM, but ultimately limited at the top level.

Now was the time for Ferguson to start delivering in the League. He went into the market:

Peter Boleslaw Schmiechel.

Son of a Pole and born in Denmark to a Danish mother, he had held Polish citizenship until 7 when his father became Danish.

Schmiechel played as an amateur in the Danish top division until he joined Brondby at 22 and became a full time pro. Before Brondby he had supported himself in a textile factory, working for the WWF (the Panda one) as well as doing his military service. Brondby were in no doubt that the young Schmiechel would be a star - his intimidating 6'4 and 16 stone stature coupled with notable athleticism gave him all the natural gifts that attracted Denmark's top team.

Even at 22 he went straight into the team, won a title in his first season and became Denmark's undisputed number one at 23 when he was thrown into the second game of Euro '88. He never gave up the jersey again until retirement.

After winning 4 titles in 5 years for Brondby he got his big move to Manchester as a 26 year old, costing £500k, which could be considered at around £8-10m in today's climate.
Ferguson got the title challenge he wanted, but was pipped by Leeds in a heartbreaking finish to the final season before the Premiership's inception.

Schmiechel spent the summer winning the European Championshop for Denmark, who had replaced Yugoslavia after they were expelled from the competition.

He returned to Manchester as a champion in a team of wannabes, and after Ferguson added another champion, an undrafted Frenchman, United began their rise to dominance.

Voted in 2002 as the Greatest Goalkeeper that Ever Lived, nudging out Lev Yashin, Schmiechel is the only possible draftee in this competition that would be considered the greatest of all time in his position.

Here's some vids:

Suarez a fine steal. Could argue him as player of year in 12-13. Variance hurt him in 11-12.
