Who cares about career stats? We are talking about the present. Pavano was solid this year, A.J. was awful this year. Pavano was paid 7 million, A.J. was paid 16.5 million. A.J. is owed 50 million for the next 3 years, Pavano is a free agent after this year. It seems highly unlikely Burnett earns his contract with the Yankees, while Pavano has been a steal for the Twins.
They were both overpaid by the Yankees after career years though, so they have that in common.
