I've only been to Connecticut twice, mostly just saw white people and houses I couldn't afford.

Some places you just want to stay away from. West Memphis, Compton, East St. Louis, Detroit, and suburbs of Connecticut.

In its latest update to the Aaron Hernandez story, Sports Illustrated reiterates he is "not believed to be a murder suspect."

Hernandez's role in the alleged crime remains unclear after Massachusetts State Police searched his home for over two and a half hours Tuesday. Per reporter Greg A. Bedard, police are looking for a second vehicle under Hernandez's name in addition to the rental car considered a "key piece of evidence." We're nowhere near the end of this.

Best guess: some sort of gang involvement by his boys and him in an accidental (ie: unplanned) hit relating to drugs (90%) or a woman (10%)

I would take the under.

My complete guess on the situation:

Aaron hangs out with some gangsterish dudes and he fronts cash for a lot of their activities. They were involved in a murder somehow, and the cars they drive are rentals that he pays for. The fact his name is on the rental cars makes it even less likely that he was directly involved imo. He is a clean and legit person to have the cars named under, and that is probably his contribution to his boys, in turn they use the cars to carry out illegal ****, but keep him physically separated from it.

Was the dude who died a friend of his or an enemy?

Because if it was one of his friends, it becomes very very unlikely anything punitive happens to Hernandez (unless it is the guy suing him for the eye shooting, obv). If it is an enemy, it opens him up to conspiracy, etc. but still I doubt he is present for a murder, would take some extreme stupidity.

Isn't that still a crime. Maybe not RICO level but something similar?

ianal, etc. but by the book it is no doubt a crime. However, considering he likely was "uncooperative, aka getting his lawyer involved before speaking to police" and his friends can probably keep quiet and get paid very well by him for taking the heat, I doubt much of a charge would stick in that situation.

I am snap taking the over, Rog likes to make examples of people. 2 games max feels more like 2 games min, could easily see the commish giving him a full season for letting his boys use his name to do their business, even if he ends up not getting charged with much/anything

If he helped hide evidence or paid for stuff, etc., he's getting charged.

I just don't see how if he is not charged for much/anything he can be in trouble for letting other people use rental cars in his name.

It does look like a lack of judgement for him and his friends to use his place as a safehouse after **** went down.

He should have been alone at his house when the police inevitably show up to search. Having several of the people of interest in his house has to be a major oversight.

I love how every time these athlete criminal stories surface 2+2 is all like 'come on, that would be pretty stupid to do X, so (idiot athlete) clearly didn't do X.'

We're talking about professional athletes. Many of these people are very, very stupid.

Yup. That was john Dennis on weei this morning (dude is the worst): "his name is on the car, the body is less than a half mile from his house, therefore he's innocent. He's not that dumb."

Then Kurt minihan (the only redeeming person on weei) lold at that thinking.

Does the repeated use of the term "associate" in the media reports bother anyone other than me? I'm trying to figure out who in my life would be termed an associate and I'm drawing a blank. Do most people have associates and I'm missing out on some basic part of society?

It's just a better term for his gang buddies.

Yeah, it's giving them the benefit of the doubt that they might be like, organized crime or something. Al Capone didn't have friends, he had associates

I think there are two polar options here:

1) They can't prove anything other than someone he knew left a car near where a person was murdered. He's never charged and the case fizzles out in general.

In that case, the most I could see Goody Mob handing down would be 2 games for misbehaving.

2) He's charged with a crime in some way. Since we're dealing with a murder there's no way this isn't a jail term, long suspension, or both.

I can't really see this ending with him missing 8 games for example, because of the circumstances we already know.

To me, the most surprising part of this story: 23 year olds can rent cars. I guess that 25 year minimum is just an old wives tale?

As a Patriot fan, I would have ranked him 2nd on the team in Most Likely to Murder, after Brandon Spikes. The guys touchdown dance is a strip club move for god's sake.
You can rent cars younger than 25 but you have to pay an almost 2x rate in comparison to those over 25.
