It is hilarious. Why would the AAF work when the UFL didn't work only 5-10 years ago?
No one cares because of mediocre QB play, mediocre O-line play, no stars except players who were bad in the NFL, no fantasy, bad market decisions as trying to put teams where no NFL team is doesn't work since many of these markets are tied to college, and a terrible time of the year to run football since you are competing against March Madness and other sports playoffs. People don't need more football after it ends, and would be far more inclined to watch around June/July to get their fix.
Speaking of the locations of the teams, let's see how bad it is.
Atlanta- Oh boy, this is an absolutely terrible location for a minor league team. You already have the Falcons and Georgia. Good luck getting a city that doesn't give a **** about sports in general to care about minor league football. Not surprised to see they are almost last in attendance.
Birmingham - Ok, a city that will never have a real major league sports team, but lol at trying to get people that care about Auburn and Alabama to pay attention this sports league. I'm sure people are also clamoring to watch a game at a 100 year old stadium that holds 70k people. Must be an awful atmosphere.
Memphis - A slightly better Birmingham. Too much college presence all around and another terrible stadium.
Orlando - The Pro Bowl is probably more exciting for people that live here, but for real, not a bad choice since it's kind of a football no man's land. Probably good also for tourists and a place for families to go to.
Arizona - Another terrible location. Phoenix is not a football hotbed, and already is saturated with other teams. The Cardinals have some of the lowest NFL attendance, and with a capacity of about 63k for their stadium (I'm sure it's no mistake why the stadium is that small), they aren't even selling out all the time.
Salt Lake - I'm not sure what to make of this city. It would seem like a good location, but they are DFL in attendance. This one doesn't scream blatantly stupid like some other locations.
San Antonio - Probably the best location and has a sizable market. A football state with an under-served market in Austin/SA. This is the perfect type of league for a boring and family oriented city. 1st in attendance by a large margin.
San Diego - This is a huge risk. SD already didn't seem to care much about the Chargers. I guess they are banking on big football fans missing out on live football. It could also easily go the other way with people being disenfranchised with any type of football. Attendance is surprisingly good being in 3rd place.
The AAF is clearly going to fail with mostly terrible cities picked. Orlando and SA are the only two that seem like solid choices.
