What if a secondary American football league was a good idea and the only reason the xfl failed is because Donald trump turns everything he touches into a cancerous mess?

Somehow have a game on my dvr. Memphis v Birmingham. Hackenberg getting outplayed by someone who is a better bowler than football player, Novak sighting. Better then I thought honestly, will watch next weekend probably.

Try CBS Sports Network. They are broadcasting the games.

You're not going to get any love from ESPN on this since they aren't making any money off it.

Also first two games averaged 2.9 million viewers which is pretty decent.

Anyone think it could be easier to present this league to a niche audience now than 17 years ago because the internet, fantasy leagues, HD, etc?

Maybe XFL was just too ****ty/before its time.

Seems like this could work if done right. Quality coaches with legitimate experience, being NFL minor league, putting it in the right cities, etc

aka not ****ing Europe and no sprint to a ball leading to broken bones to decide who gets the kick off.

Can someone inform me about the "onside kick"? Is it 4th & 12 from the 28 closest to the end zone or furthest away ?

Speaking of XFL..

Looks like they might go legit.

Kind of disappointed to see AAF taking on the role of a minor league to the NFL. Would prefer to see them compete with the NFL like the USFL did. Maybe that's a long-run plan.

No one is going to invest in taking on the NFL currently.

I only caught part of the Apollos game so I haven't independently verified this, but the chatter I've heard this week is that AAF football was for the most part good and watchable this past weekend. XFL was neither. Once the luster of HE HATE ME etc wore off people realized they were watching garbage and stopped.

It's too bad that HE HATE ME is what people remember about XFL and not Tommy Maddox using the league to go from the New Jersey Red Dogs Arena team to quarterbacking the Pittsburgh Steelers off and on for like 4 years

im sure everyone has seen this on the twitters by now, but both declined. Kaep over money and tebow to keep playing baseball.

Yeah Kaep said he'd play for $20 million which probably exceeds the entire payrolls for teams (assuming 53 man rosters, not sure how many players are on rosters but they get $250k each)

It's also interesting that teams can't necessarily sign players from any college they want, they are assigned colleges from which they can draw players based on geography

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/2...250k-contracts

Quote:
The AAF will scout players who don't make NFL and CFL teams. They will be allocated to rosters based primarily on where they played college, if there is an AAF team within a reasonable radius. When that isn't the case -- which will often be true for players from the Big Ten and the Big 12 -- players will be allocated based on their most recent NFL or CFL team.

Players whose college doesn't have an AAF affiliation and who haven't played in the NFL or CFL are eligible to be tendered a contract by any team.

"Each of our teams will have at least five colleges whose players become theirs, four designated NFL teams and a CFL team that is assigned," Polian said.

Polian said modeling suggested that this format would lead to a competitive league, taking into account that the Birmingham team, for example, wouldn't be loaded with Alabama players because many of those players actually make the NFL. The one exception the league has made is for quarterbacks: Teams can only take one former college quarterback in their region.

Actually a decent way to do it to draw in fans. The football is decent so that is the big thing.

It will also help limit expenses for teams and players

I’d say no. Bama/Clemson are going to have the best players on the field. And even bamas/clemson’s Starters who wouldn’t make the nfl I believe would have the talent/athletic ability as Most starters in the AAF. Plus bama has Saint Nick.
