It's tempting but it would all be a waste then!

I also remembered a player who I might have liked to have included somewhere right around now, Giorgos Karagounis.

I don't really know how he has done in league play over the years. That Panathinaikos never ever best Olympiakos doesn't help and I have no idea if he was hit or miss during his stay at Benfica.

But for Greece and in Europe he has been excellent for many years. He defends well and has the kind of playmaking skills that can both keep possession and start great counter attacks, so maybe he should have been on the list.

There is also his partner in crime Katsouranis, but him I've seen even less of over the years. He might be the better player right now though.

He already said no US guys were on it, so that only leaves a tiny few possibles left. Marquez? Vela? Guardado? Dos Santos?

I am guessing none, but we'll see.

Just skip everybody else, give us where you have the Sevilla players and I suppose tell us which of Messi and Ronaldo you have on top, or maybe you threw a curveball and put Xavi up there or something.

Definitely not Xavi. I have quite a few ahead of him. That might be one curveball! And yeah some of those I really would consider for maybe even the top spot.

Actually while I kind of think the top of the list isn't the most interesting cause everyone are very familiar with all the players the order is maybe a bit unusual.

Sounds controversial. Such conversation has no place in football.

I think there just might be one big surprise in the top 3 that will cause some controversy though I won't say what I think it is to not ruin the surprise (if it even turns out to happen).

Have to admit I'm very curious where you're going to place the English players on here.

And yeah, apart from seeing what order 1-10 is I think 100-200 is what I find most interesting, hoping to learn something from the write ups.

One of the next 6 places will have the second English player so far on the list.
First was Walcott of course (more injured atm than I thought) AND with less of a chance of going to the World Cup than Walcott hmmmm

All right, it finally continues:

The list so far:

200: Alberto Zapater - Genoa - Spain
199: Nikola Zigic - Valencia - Serbia
198: Sergio Ramos - Real Madrid - Spain
197: Lucio - Inter - Brazil
196: John Obi Mikel - Chelsea - Nigeria
195: Sergio Busquets - Barcelona - Spain
194: Philippe Mexes - Roma -France
193: Anatolij Tymoshchuk - Bayern München - Ukraine
192: Theo Walcott - Arsenal - England
191: Aaron Ramsey - Arsenal - Wales
190: Pepe - Real Madrid - Portugal
189: Sergei Semak - Rubin Kazan - Russia
188: Alberto Aquilani - Liverpool - Italy
187: Clarence Seedorf - Milan - Holland
186: Diego Capel - Sevilla - Spain
185: Yossi Benayoun - Liverpool - Israel
184: Riccardo Montolivo - Fiorentina - Italy
183: Kolo Toure - Manchester City -Côte d'Ivoire
182: Yuri Zhirkov - Chelsea - Russia

200-195
194-193
192-189
188
187-185
184-182

and now:

181:
Martin Demichelis - Bayern Münich - Argentina

180:
Marouane Fellaini - Everton - Belgium

179:
Cristian Zapata - Udinese - Colombia

178:
Tim Cahill - Everton - Australia

177:
Paul Scholes - Manchester United - England

Write ups here 181-177

This kinda felt like an uneven bunch with especially Demichelis suddenly seeming way out of place and I'm not sure if (like I talk about in the write up) if it's it not just him mistakenly being ranked very high in some early drafts that's what has ended up keeping him on the list.
But maybe now he is being dumped too far down?
I do feel uncomfortable with a few of the people he is ranked ahead of however.
Would be interested in some "Bundesliga perspective" when it comes to his performances.

The Everton guys caused much headache too.
And a heated argument between the usual suspects over Cahill in the EPL thread put some doubts into my mind. Anyway neither of them (Cahill or Fellaini) I will safely conclude is Everton's best midfielder, who is yet to come.

Steven Pienaar who was yet another Everton player. Fatshaft in that argument with his usual nemesis in the EPL thread, also found better than Cahill (Phil Neville too if I remember correctly!) I don't think that highly of though, and he didn't make the list (or the nominations even).

Then there is the great Paul Scholes who was the hinted English player further removed from the World Cup than Walcott. Should he be much higher?
Or maybe lower? Compared to some the earlier ranked players. Thoughts are welcome!

dude, Cahill and Scholes are shocking inclusions imo.

I'd rate Pienaar over Cahill as well.

The main issue with Scholes is I wouldn't have him starting any kind of big game any more unless the opposition has a seriously weak midfield that loves to give time and space. He's an excellent squad player and great to have against crapper teams who will sit back but beyond that it's a bit of a stretch now. Agree with the Pienaar love-in, from what I've read plenty of Everton fans rate him and he's looked good most times I've watched him play.

Pienaar is class, especially with some space in front of him.

Woo I'm glad you found space for Cahill. I think I'll die a happy man. Despite his lack of technical ability and vision he is elite in his positioning and aerial ability and has scored many important goals for two sides that by no means have a supply line that makes it easy.

Interestingly, he has a great pedigree. Two cousins that play international rugby for New Zealand.
