It's kind of funny imagining how some of the more nonsensical events came about. Like some dude who couldn't win the long jump so he says "now we're gonna do 3 jumps". Why not double jump or quad jump?

Swimming is the worst offender obviously. It should've just been freestyle stroke at the usual distances, 100/200 etc. Along the way some dumbasses invented slower and goofier ways to swim and now they're all medal events? Track should just invent the 100 meter skip, 100m jump on 1 leg, and 100m run backwards to even the playing field. Imagine how sick the mile medley would be where you have to complete one cycle running, skipping, hopping on 1 leg, and running backwards.

Track already has the hurdles which is basically as silly as some of the swimming ones.

And of course the race walking is ridiculous.

In the early Olympics there was a standing long jump and a standing high jump and also (after checking, a standing triple jump).

USA benefited as they had the GOAT standing jumper Ray Ewry, who won 8 golds in standing jump events over 3 games between 00 and 08

First time it happened? One of the best Olympic performances ever.

Zapotek won gold on 5, 10 and 42k in 1952. No female athlete has done what Hassan has done

First woman and only the second person, is what I just read somewhere, after the one and only Zátopek in 52 got gold on 5,10,42

I did specify woman. I knew about Zapotek, but wasn't sure it's happened since.

Yeah. U.S. women are putting on a master class in how to let an inferior team hang around.

I love the look of doom, stress, horror, panic on the USA coach's face

Proof that officials are braindead: USA player knocks a rebound towards the sideline and scrambles to save it, but ball hits OOB before she can get to it. She's literally telling you she hit it last. Nope, officials say it's off France.

Feel like usa has run good at a few calls as well as France bricking some wide open 3s.

Don't feel like she expected the ball. Just trying to run defenders off. Makes sense I think.

Great effort to get it up there and try to stay behind the line imo.
