Both he and Kerr did.

You don't want to be boxed in, but if Hocker knew that Jakob drifts to the outside, then he deserved this.

I would have taken -4000 but wtv. Fair odds were probably-10000, maybe lower.

Can't think of a more sure thing this olympics.

I missed whatever trash Kerr talked. All I heard was Jakob's "I could beat him blindfolded", lol. Guess he should have invested in a blindfold for this race.

It looked like Hocker almost got him to the inside a little bit earlier

3.28 missing the podium is nuts. Jakob ran a very very good race but just wasn’t good enough. Kerr the same - perfect but beaten by someone better. I really didn’t see Hawker being good enough - very very well run

Super crazy high quality race

I just joined the thread yesterday. What was the deal with the pole vault record? Are they only allowed to move the bar once when the last competitor falls out? I thought he'd be able to keep going until he missed a height 3 times. He was clearing it by sooo much. He's got a lot higher record in him.

I actually think Hocker wanted to go outside, but couldn't get there. He then saw the inside was open. Either way, great race.

He vaulted 6.25, a new WR.

It is what it is, but it is tough to lead that pace the whole race. I don't really follow either of them, but Jakob pushing the pace was impressive.

I know. My question was, why wasn't he allowed to go for the next height once he cleared that. Because everyone else had missed?

He didn't even have to do the final height.

It’s his choice. Once he wins he’s only doing additional heights to please the crowd

Historically some athletes have bonuses for world records. So breaking it by 1cm at a time is good business sense. If you look at the WR progression, it’s generally 1cm at a time for this reason

He gets a bonus from his sponsor every time he breaks the world record at a meet. He’ll go for 6.26 next meet. Same thing Bubka used to do in the 80s

Plus you get tired from all those tries, he had been on the track for basically 3 hours at that point.

Not sure about the "he was clearing it by soooo much", i think you're referring to his attempts at the beginning because this is a WR and is definitely close

Ok didn't even know 3x3 basketball was a thing until "we" won gold at it

Would a team of random NBA players wipe the floor with that Dutch team or are the sports really that different

They would if they took the time to develop a bit of chemistry together. but the dutch were awesome, that shot of De Jong crushing the French made my night

Unless he gets injured he'll break it within the year.

That makes sense. I didn't know if he could continue on if he wanted to or not.

USWNT has all the same problema as the men. A bunch of athletes isn't a football team. No one can control a ball on reception and they live one on one play. It's like watching 1950s football. The euro and teams and others full of players who play in europe are much more technical and have more advanced tactics. Now that they have some athletes the US is just another team.

I don't care for and don't watch Olympic soccer at all, but his take is clearly true for US men's soccer in general. Or is the first sentence also referring to the women?
