Oh give them the Olympics twice, cool idea! I say give it to them three times. That makes sense now. You're the guy asking for sources on olympics losing money as if thats some revolutionary thinking. Now that I realize you want them to host it loltwice I really can't compete with that level. See you in Tokyo 2028!

And back to making fun of u.s. basketball

I doubt there is a country in the world that is particularly looking forward to spending the billions required to build a whole new Olympic complex when they are in the process of keeping their population alive and propping up businesses.
Reusing arenas that haven't had a single bum on a seat seems like a pretty good economic solution to me. A no brainer, in fact.

Russia is supposed to be banned from the Olympics this year due to the doping scandal. They didn't want to punish innocent athletes so they're letting them compete as the Russian Olympic Committee and the flag and their uniforms are in the Russian colors.

In other words, Russia is competing at the Olympics with no penalties.

There's a legit argument for just legalizing all performance enhancing drugs anyway. The training methods, nutrition, equipment that modern athletes use are light years ahead of those used even a few decades ago. Drugs are just part of that evolution of the sport. Some people are genetically predispositioned to superior performance anyway so you're basically saying that others don't get the chance to catch up.

It's not like the Russians cheat more than the USA, they're just not as good at it

Atlanta in 1996 came out pretty well. The cost was low, there was little public debt and the Braves got a stadium they used for 20 years.

Wiki:

Quote:
The total cost of the 1996 Summer Olympics was estimated to be around US$1.7 billion.[13] The venues and the Games themselves were funded entirely via private investment,[14] and the only public funding came from the U.S. government for security, and around $500 million of public money used on physical public infrastructure including streetscaping, road improvements, Centennial Olympic Park (alongside $75 million in private funding), expansion of the airport, improvements in public transportation, and redevelopment of public housing projects.[15] $420 million worth of tickets were sold, sale of sponsorship rights accounted for $540 million, and sale of the domestic broadcast rights to NBC accounted for $456 million. In total, the Games turned a profit of $19 million.[16][13]

The cost for Atlanta 1996 compares with costs of $4.6 billion for Rio 2016, $40–44 billion for Beijing 2008, and $51 billion for Sochi 2014 (the most expensive Olympics in history). The average cost for the Summer Games since 1960 is $5.2 billion. Unlike Atlanta 1996, Beijing and Sochi were primarily funded by their respective governments.[17]

Apart from supposedly our state (as in our country!). But to be fair if a country should host it with their response to covid so far it should be us.

Yeah I wondered what the hell ROC was and whether it was some abbreviated form of Russia competing.

Look. I'm only going to support Queensland hosting the Olympics if there is Test cricket included. What with all this starting two days before the official start for rounders this time there's plenty of time for QF, SF and Finals rounds of 5-day tests.

I've seen a couple of interviews now with Jagger Eaton (Bronze, Men's Street Skateboarding). Seems like a cool cat. Said he was listening to rap and country during his runs. I can relate to that as I primarily listen to country and techno which are polar opposites like rap and country. Dude is named after Mick Jagger.

Just want to note that as the biggest Nastia fan in the world I decided to follow the Makayla Skinner story this year as it was an awesome story. Seeing how it went down is absolutely brutal. Just gut wrenching and the fact that she is being forced out of the country as per the Games rules makes it that much worse. Hell of a career.

Biles on Vault and Floor is still the 2nd and 3rd greatest olympic athletic stuff I've ever seen. (Nastia on Beam in 2008 is still the GOAT).

Gotta feel sorry for the dude diving with Tom Daley. He’s going to get zero attention. It’s like being in a boat with Redgrave and Pinsent.
