While it was still allowed pre race, US swimming great Janet Evans used to dive into her key opponent’s lane, get out and then tell them that she’d pissed in it to try to put them off mentally
I got to thinking about shot put comparing it with Bryson DeChambeau's swing, and other long distance driving competitors.
They have quite a bit of the elements of shot put technique IMO. Although rythym is important, there is no substitute for pure power and energy.
One technique that seems to be stressed in shot put but not discus is ground force. I'm no expert, but it seems to me discus focuses on radial acceleration, not ground force.
If you throw out Bolt, how have times improved compared to Ben Johnson's 9.79?
It took 11 years after Johnson for 9.79 to be reached officially and 11 people have ever run under that time (including Bolt). The best time run this year is 9.77.
