1. Bears trade their #1 and #75 picks to NYG for their #6, #39, and next year's 1st rd pick.

2. Bears draft OLT Joe Alt @ #6 to replace their current OLT Braxton Jones, who has a hamstring and missed 6 games last year.

3. Bears draft WR Malik Nabers @ #9 to solidify their passing corps.

4. Bears draft the best DL/DT or CB available @ #39.

A lot of noise has been made about the extra $ it will cost to keep Fields. In fact, Bears will save $3.6M by keeping Fields this year and avoiding the additional salary paid to a #1. Bears will be on the hook for 2025 if they want to keep Fields, but that only happens if Fields has a good 2024 season.

That, and the opportunity to fill big gaps in the OL and CB. And getting a 2025 1st rounder (which could be top 5 knowing how bad NYG might be) , takes additional pressure off the Bears' cap issues along with a backup in case they need to draft a QB if Fields flops in 2024.

FWIW I think it would be a terrible deal for NYG.
The most sense would be trading Fields because he's not good. They literally did all this last year (trade out of first overall for three firsts, get an OT with their new first round pick, got a number one receiver, drafted a DT with their second round pick).

What do they do if the same thing happens again and Fields minimally improves? Hope you fall ass backwards into the first overall pick again, where the projected 2025 QB draft class isn't as good?

Sometimes your QB is lost for the season on the first drive of the first game.

Nobody knows if it's going to rain next Friday. But odds are significantly better if you're in England than in the Sahara.

Maybe Fields learns how to throw the ball in the off-season and the Bears win the next 3 Superbowls with him. Maybe he doesn't and Mahomes win the next one instead. Since we're playing a numbers game, one of those two things is significantly more likely.

There is plenty of logic to the bears trading out of 1, but it CANNOT under any circumstances be to build a team around fields

You trade Caleb, get assets, you trade fields, get asset, they still have to take a qb in the first 2 rounds

I get the logic behind using the #1 pick to build a roster that’s fantastic outside the qb position. Makes the bears competitive almost regardless of who the qb is unless they’re an unmitigated disaster. Applying that same logic, why would you choose to build it around fields who is proven mediocrity at best?

Why would Nix play that long? He'll be eligible for Social Security after eight.

beautifully fluid too. Not sure what his HS track stats were but he must surely be low 10s

Edit: looks like a fastest of 10.6. Which is of course very very fast, but I was expecting more given the 40 and his fluidity

At the closest airport to whatever team drafts him.

Cards seem like a slam dunk. Williams, Daniels/Maye, Harrison seems like the easiest, straightforward top four in recent memory. But as always I presume something will happen to mess it up

Seems like the only way for that not to happen would be the Cards trading out of the #4 pick.

Draftkings has him at -650 to be the first non-QB off the board with Malik Nabers second at +700. Since he's only -235 to go to Arizona, the market thinks there's both a chance they trade down and I guess a minor chance that the Patriots (+380) pick him either at #2 or go down to #4 in a trade with a team that first traded up to get that #4 spot?

With the release of Russel Wilson coming, I think Sean Payton is trying to wash his hands of Denver's mistake but I disagree with it. Everyone knows when someone gets paid huge they have to play. The investment has been made.... make it work. That much money you should get Burrow performance but not gonna happen. Still a huge cap hit is coming and you could have got game management at least. Massive cap hit and now you get nothing. 3070 yrds 26 TD 8 INT 104.4 Rating, walking out the door, but worse... the huge cap hit for NO reason. No draft picks, not even a decent back up. He wasn't dealing meth in the locker room. You have nothing now. Well I guess Sean Payton ego gets a nice boost, costs a lot money, but enjoy.

His signing was a disaster, the huge contract, the loss of draft picks. Can't go back in time, but what you can do is make more mistakes.

I have to believe Sean Payton was brought in to make this work. Wilson numbers are not that bad, if it didn't work whose fault is it?

Can’t come back from threatening to bench him over the injury guarantee.

It’s like Hank said in Breaking Bad man - he made up his mind 15 minutes ago.

Sunk cost fallacy.

And no, by the time someone has been guaranteed a huge amount of money they don't have to play anymore. Exactly the opposite actually. If Deshaun Watson didn't get that fully guaranteed contract he would have to play and prove he's worth of another contract. Since he's getting paid anyway he can basically do whatever he wants except for things that void his contract.

They say "the contract year is undefeated". Once you got paid the pressure is off.

First, he's still young and can get faster. Second, it really depends on how much he focuses on running.

And while it's still very impressive, I don't see the quick separation of Tyreek or DJax. It does look like he has decent hands and isn't just a fast person playing football. I'm guessing he made quite a bit of money this week.

I read an article this week that said the 40 was mostly irrelevant from an evaluation perspective with so much other data available but a lot of participants focus on it anyway because it gets them TV time = money.

I would think 10 yard or 3 cone times would be more important. I agree about the 40 times, but it's still flashy and all you need is for one team to be enamored with it.

It isn't for no reason. If he is on the roster on March 18, his 2025 salary becomes fully guaranteed.
