Don't they have staff of hundreds of people who combine their efforts in designing, developing, testing, etc.. ?
Naively asking as I don't know the guy but I am quite skeptical that performance is so tied to one person and not an organization.
supposedly he is the real deal. people say he has some sort of savant-like insight into air flow
as you say he has a huge team designing the widgets, but he sets the overall design concept each time a bunch of new regulations comes out, and has basically never missed in 35 years
he was the lead designer on the early 90s williams (4 titles), late 90s/early 2000s mclaren (2 titles) and all the red bulls (7 and counting). his cars were also one of the main competitors to ferrari in the 2000s and mercedes in the 2010s, both of which had insurmountable horsepower advantages over the field
