at this moment the 49ers are the dominant betting favorites to win the super bowl, and their thrice exposed system quarterback is the betting favorite to win the mvp

what a time to be alive

Dolphins cap next year is not great at all. They’re already $23m over. Not a huge amount of obvious savings outside of Ogbah and they’ve got Waddle and Philips going into yr 4 as well, albeit they’re both 1st rounders

They might need to give Tua a very big signing bonus and/or a longer deal to reduce next year’s cap hit

Since Daniel Jones got $40MM, I think the floor for Tua should be $45MM

If they can get to the conference championship, then $48MM seems like a good place to start.

Herbert just got, what, 52.5/year?

Tua will be higher than that.

I'm trying to figure out how management should be viewed with respect to Purdy.

1) How can you not have known that he had this kind of talent, and had him buried on the bench until injuries happen? Isn't it your job to evaluate talent, and put the best players out there? F-

2) Holy crap, what a great job getting that kind of talent at such a value late pick. A+

Probably some of each?

Re: 1, I think they knew they had something. Not necessarily to this level, but they saw talent in him. It was a pretty big deal (relatively speaking anyway, over here) when they cut Sudfeld before the season started and put Bork on the 53 man roster

I’d probably grade it a C

It would have been an A++ to stick him in after one preseason after being the last pick on a legit contender. Something like that’s literally never happened ever. Closest is probably Danger-Russ beating out Matt Flynn.

Wouldn't surprise me. These are the top contracts by average. I definitely think he deserves more than Russ and Kyler, so $50MM seems reasonable. Assuming they go with a 4-5 year deal. Even though he's stayed healthy, not sure if they'd want to go longer than that.

Gotta give Saleh some credit. As bad as Wilson has been, I think the last 2 weeks proved he was right when he said Wilson was the best option they had on the team.

Possibly, but I do like rankings that go based on current level of play. That said, it's not a great list.

I'd go

1. Brock
2. Dak
3. Tua
4. Stroud
5. Josh

That's fair for all teams where a successful season isn't solely defined by playoff result.

Going to do my best to give a completely unbiased evaluation on MVP frontrunner Bork Purdy

I had not watched a single snap of him during preseason and won’t pretend to know a god damn thing about him. It stood out bigly that he made the 53 man roster last year over Sudfeld which gives the impression the organization knew they had something. After his first start against tampa I declared him the franchise qb to a large amount of ridicule, not because I thought there was an overwhelming level of talent but because I’ve watched every 9ers game since Kyle became HC and that was the literal first time I’ve ever seen him trust the qb and apply pressure through the air rather than behave like a scared bitch. In hindsight it is very apparent that of everyone in the room Bork was the one he wanted to run the show

Bork has proven to be capable of moments of sheer stupidity that for the most part he got lucky to not be punished by during the rookie season. There would be at least 1 braindead throw a game that would be a dropped interception or else he’s getting eviscerated. This year he’s gotten slightly better about it but it still shows

He’s never going to be the guy who throws a dime 50 yards downfield, but he has an impressive level of downfield accuracy on 20-30 air yard passes and has a pocket awareness and an ability to evade pressure that is well beyond his current status as a 2nd year mr irrelevant. He still is prone to gunslinger stupidity but the talent around him is so elite he isn’t getting crushed for it

Is he the mvp of the league? I love the guy and the story but no ****ing way. He’s barely the mvp of the Niners. If Trent goes down this team is done. If aiyuk goes down this team is done. If cmc goes down this team is in trouble. If Bork goes down, Darnold, while a significant downgrade, can still bring this team to a Super Bowl because of the talent there and the coach driving the ship. It’ll be way harder with Darnold than it would be with Bork but it’s certainly doable cuz this is the best team in football

Wrath mentioned Bork being the last pick being held against him and that is absolutely true. If Lance were putting up the exact same numbers Bork has we’re calling him one of the 3 or 5 best qbs in football cuz he was taken 3rd overall. It would have overrated Lance significantly and underrated the team but because Bork was the last overall pick and 3rd in line behind Lance and Womp we underrate Bork and focus on the team around him

All of this to say. I would say at worst Bork is a top 15 qb in the nfl today. I say I may be underrating him and he could very well be a top 10 qb today. He has 3 years to show how much he can grow, but his floor is a qb who is capable of of being a perennial playoff qb even if you throw 25 mil a year at him. Is he a guy you can sign to a deal and build a Super Bowl contender around? I wouldn’t make that bet right now for even a second. Can he become that? It’s possible

I'm assuming 4 years has a year older a lot of those guys when they got their contracts

33 is still prime years for an OT? Maybe you're right but I reckon they'd prefer to have him if he's healthy

Alright guys. Have a moral question for you (re: fantasy for my actual league)

I’m 1st place at 10-3. I will stay at first place doing this. This move automatically eliminates one of the teams that beat me, and is the only chance I have at eliminating another of the teams that beat me, who also is the only team with more points than me and has cmc (if he loses with my sandbagging he’s done)

So. Sandbag or play with honor?
