Watch the actual pod. It was mostly a bit.
But also, what Chris is doing doesn't make a lot of sense. Every game he holds out a) costs him over $1M and b) drops his franchise tag # for next year, which is currently at 120% of his $28M cap hit this year. As is the Chiefs really can't tag him next year. If he holds out until week 8, as he's threatened to do, his tag suddenly becomes very affordable.

We can say, however, that given his 2023 cap hit of $28.3 million minus the $1.25 million charged against the 2023 cap for NLTBE incentives earned in 2022 (data via Spotrac), his 2024 franchise tag should be somewhere around 120% of $27.1 million, which works out to $32.5 million.
His agent has Chris Jones and a bunch of guys you've barely heard of. A lot of people are questioning his tactics here. I think the best case scenario for Jones is the Chiefs start out 1-3 with clear deficiencies in the D-line. And even then I'm not sure they'd cave. They're trying to build a team of players willing to take home-town discounts for rings. If they overpay one player, they lose all leverage on that.
Jones isn't worth Aaron Donald money, which is apparently what he's asking for. The Rams overpaid for Donald and it's killing them. Big difference between 3rd contract and 2nd contract. Jones has been an all-pro 2 years and a very good player a bunch more. Donald was all-pro for 8 years in a row or whatever and has a case for all-time defensive player Mt. Rushmore. Jones as good as he is, doesn't sniff that.
Jones might command that kind of money if he was on the open market right now, but he's not. He's about to turn 30, when D tackles generally fall off a cliff. I suspect he understands this and is trying to use any leverage he has. But the Chiefs hold most of the cards here. Veach isn't going to cave and give him a Donald contract. They'll just let him walk.
