If Baltimore gets past the 9ers and Miami past Dallas, then Miami v Baltimore on 12/31 will likely be for the AFC

The AFCN having all 4 teams in the playoffs would be a very obnoxious accomplishment

Offense just can't get off to such a slow start vs these legit teams. Should have beat Houston Sunday for sure. Fwiw I think both them and Houston are above Buffalo but eh, not a big deal. List looks good.

Edit: Colts are hanging on by a thread in every win it seems. They're due for an epic collapse the last few games
Turns out relying on 5 turnovers per game to win might not be sustainable.

Stroud had the 2nd lowest qbr last week. It's a great story, and he will win rookie of the year, but betting him to win mvp , even with great odds, seems like lighting money on fire.

I think Josh allen at 50/1 is the best value.

He's currently leading the nfl in total touchdowns and is 3rd in QBR. If they win 5 straight , his numbers almost certainly get better, id assume his qbr is 1st or 2nd. The winning steak would include wins over mahommes, prescott , herbert and Tua. That's probably good enough to win the award, given recency bias and what not.

Obviously the big if is the bills winning 5 straight. But I think everyone knows they're better than their record and they need every game to make the playoffs so they should be playing desperate.

I don't think it will happen but at 50/1 I'd back the truck up if it were legal in my state to gamble on player awards.

It likely will be for it regardless because the winner of that game would have tiebreaker

Man, I guess I need to apologize to everyone. Seeing all this nonsense about the Bills making the playoffs or Allen winning MVP must be how others feel when I talk about Miami winning the Super Bowl.

Dunnno about above Bills. Buffalo being equal or less than 3 point dogs on the road to Philly and KC is pretty big.

Agree on Indy.

Browning looked like he can get Cincy in?

Cincy was due for an upgrade into we don’t know if they’re good or not.

I have no idea if they’re good, and that’s my team.

Do you not understand how odds work? I didn't say gamble on Josh Allen to win MVP at 3/1 odds. The bills most likely don't make the playoffs (NYT currently has them at 17%), and josh allen almost certainly doesn't win MVP... but again odds...its an interesting concept.

Also, the odds of the dolphins winning the super bowl are worse than the odds of the bills making the playoffs. And I'd be willing to wager up to $1,000 on that If anyone wants to take me up on it.

no intention of betting, just curious. if neither happens it's a push?

I declared Bork the Niners qb of the future after literally his first start last year, but ‘Brock Purdy will be worth $60 million a year if he wins the mvp’ might be the stupidest thing I’ve ever read

The salary cap is ~ $225 million. What kind of mouth-breather thinks that any team (49ers or otherwise) is going to pay Bork $60MM a year?

That is truly Hall of Fame-level stupidity.

Interesting question though….if Purdy had been drafted #1 overall by the 9ers last year and was playing exactly the same way with exactly the same support cast, how much different would his earning potential be?

Guessing $60m per wouldn’t be far off the mark. But somehow because he was drafted 200th or whatever people will want him to be paid game manager type money

Completely different draft scenarios but relevant from a ‘support cast’ perspective but it’ll be really interesting to see what Tua gets this offseason if he’s healthy

Probably the same people that thought it was a good idea to pay a guy with 13 passing TDs so far, $50MM a year.

I mean I guess it’s a fair thought experiment, and I suppose the question is what are you paying Lance if Lance delivered the way Bork has

I still don’t think the upper echelon fits even in that scenario. In part because we’re seeing in real time no qb is worth disposing 25% of your cap space to if you plan on being a Super Bowl contender and in part because the Niners have demonstrated the capacity to build at worst a competitive team with a milquetoast qb and at best a Super Bowl contender with an above average one

This will play itself out before it becomes an actual conversation but between now and Bork’s extension talks the following will happen:

1. Trent will retire
2. One of Deebo or aiyuk will be gone
3. One of kittle or cmc will be gone

If all 3 happens and Bork is still playing at ‘mvp’ level by the time the extension talks happen I’ll be curious how it plays out. But I’m skeptical

Overthecap has the 2025 salary at $282mil. That's roughly 25% above the current level so $60mil in 2025 is $48mil in 2023 salary cap dollars.

If Purdy wins MVP this year and is at least a top 10 QB in 2024, he should certainly get $55mil+/year from someone? That would be a lower percentage of the salary cap than what Deshaun Watson makes right now.

A lot can and will change with the Niners in the next 2 years that’ll give Bork the opportunity to show he’s that guy.

He played 3 games without Trent which was his first opportunity to show he can win in the face of actual adversity cuz the 9ers have barely a line with him and nothing without him. He lost all 3

This is definitely going to be the most unusual evaluation of a qb we’ve seen since probably early years Brady and because of how qb contracts have evolved into pure insanity it’ll be an even more unusual evaluation. Probably isn’t fair to assess Bork’s value until we see what he grows into over the next 2 years but it won’t stop me from doing it

The only thing I know for sure about Bork is going in the 7th round was unequivocally a misfire and the Niners knew that just enough to not cut him

It's kind of ironic that he's managed to stay healthy with so many QBs being injured.

Since Daniel Jones got $40MM, I think the floor for Tua should be $45MM

If they can get to the conference championship, then $48MM seems like a good place to start.

fun fact of the day....Daron Bland has scored more TDs this season as a cornerback than Kyle Pitts has scored in 3 seasons as a 'once in a generation, top 5 pick TE'
