i don't know the criteria for 'best' in this context,
hey if i can see west of the mississisip, and if you're asking which horse i'd pick to ride bareback broke across country mountains, lost without water or recovery, while raiding the 2023 season under any and all current circumstances, my vague guess is here's how i'd choose to spread some futures bets.
not trying to russell any jimmys son, but i've willingly come to grips with this order of my tout sheet:

Spoiler:
1. Mahomes
2. Herbert
3. Burrow
4. Allen
5. Hurts
6. Rodgers
7. Lawrence
8. Geno
9. Lamar
10. Tua
Spoiler:
i'm just afraid Tua's gunna take another noggin' shot and it'll all be done.

I’m firmly in the “Herbert needs to prove it to me first” phase of the ranking for these lists.

Everyone’s fine just pencilling him in as an unquestioned top 5 guy…. His resume of what he’s actually done on the field doesn’t rate that high to me.

being on a dumpster fire franchise has kinda helped him in this way because it has absolved him from most blame for the first 3 years of his career

I'm not saying he can't become the #1 QB, but I don't think he's shown us enough yet to say he's currently #1. I think Godgers, JAWSH, burrow, hurts, lamar and herbert all would have broken every QB record in the NFL with the chiefs roster before tyreek left. So what mahomes did was slightly disappointing for a guy who is treated as the #1 QB. Even last year he lost tyreek and the chiefs admitted they had no confidence in mahomes and replace tyreek with 4-5 WRs while still having the best TE in the NFL.

Agreed, saying Godgers is #4 or lower is insane. He is coming off back to back MVP and then last year had a top 5 QB season with one of the poorest receiving rooms in the NFL. What he did with that ragtag crew was truly special to watch.

I'm shocked you have Hurts at #5 (I personally think 5-7 is fine for him, but as a fan it would be hard to trade him for anyone that isn't Mahomes or Burrow... and probably Jawsh).

I did lol at your #6, though.

I’m kinda torn here. Herbert has been ****ing fantastic and spent most of last year battling injured ribs, and ya, he has a ton of built in excuses he can lean on

Otoh as much of a disaster as the chargers are it’s not as if they’re lacking for talent on the offensive side

He is crazy talented though. He definitely has top 3 upside but there’s no justifiable reason to put him there yet

Herbert is going to end up like Rivers: Good enough to give the fans hope, but not good enough to carry that perpetually gigantic dumpster to the promised land.

Herbie #2 was strictly in the context of next season and potential futures bets.
i don't disagree with any of the herbie chatter, and as for excuses it's also worth noting Allen & Williams both missed substantial time last season.
do not underestimate the upgrade from Lombardi to Moore.

Top 10 WR's https://www.espn.com/nfl/insider/sto...-best-wideouts

1. Jefferson
2. Adams
3. Chase
4. Hill
5. Kupp
6. Diggs
7. Brown
8. Metcalf
9. Terry
10. CD

I think Brown should be in the top 5, but other than that, I think it's an okay list.

there's a clear drop off after 7. Metcalf isn't a patch on any of the guys above him. TBH I wouldn't have him as high as 8 but there's quite a large second tier group of WRs and they all have their strengths and slight weaknesses.

I would also argue that Hill and Kupp (assuming healthy) should be ahead of Chase and that those top 4 have a little distance to Chase, Diggs, Brown

I think Jefferson and Adams are clear 1 and 2. Then 3-5 could be Hill, Kupp, Brown in whatever order you like.

The Chargers have had a bunch of talent and good coaches in the last 20 years. I guess you can say that LT, Michael Turner, Sproles, Antonio Gates, and Vincent Jackson let Rivers down (and with some good defenses).

Top 5 are the same as last season just in a different order. Everyone got first place vote(s) and nobody else got one. What really surprised me was their lowest ranking numbers. #6 for Chase sounds weird, but OK. Unranked for Kupp might be because of injuries even though that's not really fair. #7 for Jefferson is pretty ridiculous and how anyone could come up with #9 for Adams and Tyreek is beyond me.

Especially after no one had Mahomes lower than #2 which means they probably didn't try to troll the voting.

I hope nobody tells bahbahmickey that none of the 26 players who received votes plays for KC.

gotta be weird for some of these guys being the stars on their teams and now starting to see WRs make 2-4x more than them at the elite levels

someone like barkley is a face of a franchise type guy, these guys touch the ball on almost 1/3rd of their teams possessions

but obviously the market move seems mostly correct so is what it is
