Nathan Eovaldi, sounds like an opera singer.

I guess he's a pretty good pitcher too.

I really wish we had Statcast data for Walter Johnson.

All we can do is read about him, tell stories, and use a childlike imagination.

Part of what makes baseball so great.

Ohtani managed to give up 5 runs on 4 hits.
He also got 4 hits himself and hit a ball 900 feet.

They have been on a bit of a heater. Goldy had a crazy game, might've been that one lol. Cooled off today versus the bullpen, after an injured Wade Miley was pulled early

So a base coach tipping you off is okay. I think it is, just making sure we all agree. Also, from years ago back office guys giving Judge some tips.

Is the only thing that matters is how the info is delivered to the batter?

Is anyone saying it isn't? The Jays just complained about positioning of base coaches.

I know too little about baseball to understand how that pitch could have been tipped. Do they really have a sign for "slider over the center of the plate that a high schooler would hit"? Let's assume they do and that was indeed the planned pitch. Why would the Yankees coach even bother relying that information to Judge and why would Judge think that information might be accurate? If I was a hitter I would never believe a pitch that bad could be planned.

They were basically going up and in hard and away soft all night.
Kirk was set up outside with like 12 left on the pitch clock and Jackson didn't throw it until 2 or 3 left. Pretty sure it was Cortes on the bench that picked it up, and was probably relaying that to 1B coach. Find Chris Black on twitter, handle is like "@backtoblack".
The meatball down the dick wasn't planned, but Judge knew it was going to be a non-FB and is good enough to identify a slow cement mixer midmid.

The issue the Jays had wasn't anything about cheating per se; their issue was more about where the coaches were set up and asked again last night that they stay within the designated coaching boxes in case they were picking something up that they otherwise woulnd't have been.

BTW, if you watched Jansen catching Gausman last night (Kirk caught the monday game), he was balancing his fastball range so to speak. If Gausman is throwing up in the zone it's almost always a fastball. Jansen was setting up high plenty as bluffs for splitters or sliders

Gausman pitch location heatmap
just spiltters

Yeah as long as there's no technology being used in real time, like cameras or hacking pitchcom, it's all good and you're in charge of guarding your own info that you give up.

There's a VERY small subset of Jays fans concerned about actual cheating here, to be clear. Buck and Shulman only pointed out on the broadcast that something was happening, and that Judge was looking to the side on multiple pitches, presumably to get some kind of info. The concern was that the basecoach was somehow picking something up or otherwise relaying info to Judge in real time that he wouldn't have otherwise been able to if he was standing in his designated box, which came up again last night, and is kind of dumb imo, but not entirely implausible.

Count me out as someone who gives a **** about where the coach stands; fairly rarely do you ever see base coaches actually standing within the lines and that's something that is so rarely ever enforced, that it's silly to complain about.

Was he only looking over during Jackson AB or is it all of them? The problem is that none of these clips "breaking it down" actually know what to look for and cut away at the most important times.

It looks like Jay Jackson brings the glove up next to his head during the time that pitchers typically regrip. It's hard to tell for sure because I can't seem to find any good footage, but all the 1B coach would need to see is if his hand is moving inside the glove. Then he can quickly and easily signal fastball (no movement) or not_fastball (regrip). We could easily figure out if this is what's happening with timestamped footage from different angles but it doesn't seem to exist. If the 1B coach is leaving the box to see into the glove then that's a legitimate complaint, but you gotta protect your pitches better than that.
