The othani contract is truly one of the most fascinating ever signed and my good god Friedman is an evil genius

Friedman’s contract is up next year. If he leaves Ohtani has an option to opt out that is only triggered with him leaving the team

Meaning he has an absolutely unholy amount of leverage to bend the dodgers over and name his price

Well played, sir

I didn’t realize until the other day there was a 60 Minutes piece on Ohtani one year before he came to the majors. It was really good.

I’ve never been more excited for one team and their upcoming season than I am for the Dodgers in 2024. I’d have to go back to like 91-93 IU basketball to come even remotely close.

Baseball is so random. Having great players doesn’t mean you’ll win anything. I would be shocked if the Dodgers don’t win at least 2 World Series with this group though.

And the Dodgers payroll is still below the Mets and Yankees.

Well there was a guy online last night who I trust who said it. I don’t personally know myself but I’ll go with what he said.

I don't think they do, the AAV is listed as $46mil.

But I think Fangrpaphs uses a 2024 projection of $286mil for the Dodgers and not where they are at right now pre-arbitration and stuff.

That's their current payroll. It's highly unlikely that they'll play the season with 15 players though.

For salary cap purposes, Ohtani, Glasnow, Betts, Freeman and Yamamoto alone are in the neighborhood of $150mil.

That's also what Forbes says, #2 behind the Yankees at $650mil. At a payroll (players only) of $269 and $262 respectively.

To compare those numbers with one of the big soccer clubs: In their latest fiscal year, Bayern had a revenue of roughly $940mil and total payroll (players, staff, executives, everyone else) of $425mil.

where do you see only 15 guys? the sportrac number has a full 40-man roster listed with ~26 players contributing to the payroll numbers

There are 15 players with a "payroll salary" right now. Everybody else that already has a luxury tax number doesn't show up under payroll salary because of arbitration. Plus Yamamoto.

At the bottom of the page you can see projected numbers for tax calculations.

Ohtani gifted Joe Kelly’s wife a Porsche as a thank you for getting number 17. Not sure if he gave Kelly anything else or he just voluntarily gave up his number. Think he might have.

Great Gif.

Getting paid and not sharing with teammates is lame as hell.
