Ron Washington leaving the Braves to be the manager of the Angels.

With Dusty retiring, he’ll be the oldest manager in MLB at 71.

I thought he was kind of a dunce with Texas, but as the Braves bench coach, a lot of the players have said how he really helped them improve. By all accounts, well-regarded in the clubhouse.

They'll probably hire noted imbecile Nick Swisher as bunting coach. For some reason they've been asking for him for input which is mind boggling. He also might be the worst bunter I've ever seen.

Brian Cashman called "getting inured" part of Stanton's game. Might be true but seems to be unnecessarily harsh?

FWIW, Cashman was Yankees GM when they traded for his $325mil contract at the end of 2017. With the Marlins he spent time on the injury list every single season between 2012 and 2016 when he was in his early to mid 20s. (Maybe it would be fair to remove 2014 because that happened after being HBP). He's also the only player I've ever heard of who broke his wrist by swinging too hard.

And really stupid since the Yankees would love to trade Stanton and the $118 million he's due over the next four seasons.

Stanton's agent is Joel Wolfe.

Wolfe also represents Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the Japanese pitcher who might be the Yankees' #1 offseason free agent target.

I'm no Cashman fan but it's not like other teams aren't aware of his injury history.

As a Yankee fan I ****ing love it. Best thing Cashmans done or said in a decade. Not stop acquiring these types of guys!

Here's what Wolfe responded:

So if Yamamoto is made of Teflon he might still sign with them, otherwise probably not.

Troy Percival went to Angels instructs this Sept. He didn't like how technology was used in assessing pitchers.

Soon after, the top two MiLB pitching coordinators were let go.

Why this moment could be indicative of a shift for Angels pitching.

don't think, just throw, hell yeah

He's going to whoever pays him the most like almost every other free agent ever.
If someone is so butt hurt over what Cashman said that they won't sign with the Yankees they couldn't handle playing in NY anyway.

Now there was really no reason for him to say this but it's not the big deal people are making it out to be.

Doesn't Yamamoto have to be posted? If so, only one team will be able to make him a direct offer.

You're probably right but the point still stands.
If he's so offended by one negative thing Cashman said in 25 years about one of his players publicly how on earth is he going to handle playing in NY?

In the last 5 years Stanton has played 401 games total out of a possible 708 Yankees games. He sucked this year. Cashman didn't say anything everyone doesn't already know. It's not like he was gonna be able to trade Stanton to some brainless GM who didn't already know all of this. I mean are pro athletes so soft that someone who has missed 44 percent of his teams games over 5 years, sucked this last season and is owed another 100 million over 5 years has to be coddled?

Are you assuming that Wolfe talked to Yamamoto about the Cashman quote before releasing his statement? That sounds highly unlikely to me.

I'm pretty sure the Wolfe statement is supposed to be a threat that he's going to advise Yamamoto to not sign with the Yankees. Yamamoto probably has no idea what Cashman said.

You're assuming he hasn't. Neither one of us know. When he advises him he's going to tell him why. You're assuming a comment a GM made about Stanton will actually in any way impact where he signs. Like I said if these guys need to be coddled so much they can't take an ounce of criticism they can't play in NY. If they're that soft and don't sign with the Yankees they're doing the Yankees a favor. They've given out tons of bad contracts over the years they don't need anymore.

In the end I think these comments about Stanton don't have any impact on anything.

We've seen for years agents trying to play the Yankees up against other teams to try and drive the price of contracts higher. They aren't going to eliminate a team that has a had a top 3 or so payroll almost every year for 30 years. That's just silly.

At the end of the day it's really just filler and something to talk about for a couple of days with nothing else going on.

Hell when George was in his heyday he popped off and said stupid **** all the time about players. And people still signed.

What Steinbrenner said about players was performance art. I also loved when Costanza worked for him and got calzones for lunch.

Didn't see anyone mention the passing of Padres owner Peter Seidler. Sad day for San Diego. I didn't know much about him but he seemed like a great owner, he was willing to write big checks and then got out of the way. Off the field he did a lot of work with the homeless population here in town. I hear that a lot of this was hands-on work, going into the community and helping people one-on-one, not just putting his name on a foundation.

Hopefully the team can pull its head out of its collective ass next year.

No one will be going to those games so they can play at a high school if they need to.

The city offered for them to keep playing at the Coliseum until the move. They just have to leave the A's name in Oakland and MLB needs to move them up to the front of the expansion list.

I don't think anyone really cares where the A's are going to play. MLB certainly doesn't. The whole move including waiving the $300mil relocation fee was about to show other cities they're going to lose their team if they don't pay up. Looks like Milwaukee just approved funding for the Brewer's ballpark.
