They might have to adjust the rules again, maybe winning/losing by 12+ runs or something like that? Or limit it to the 9th inning for the losing team, too.

Half of all 24 perfect games have been thrown since 1991.

Fun fact: Of those 12 games, 10 had an attendance of at least 21,889. The other two, (Dallas Braden in 2010 and yesterday) both with attendances of 12k were played at the Oakland Coliseum. All time lowest attendance for a perfect game (Catfish Hunter 1968) is 6,298. Guess the venue..

Fun fact

In CY Young's perfect game the other teams pitcher Rube Waddel , a lifetime .161 hitter made the last out.
The was also against the A's.

Another fun fact
In Sandy Koufax's perfect game the Dodgers only got one hit.
They scored in a different inning than the inning that they got the hit.

ERA since the beginning of 2021

1. Max Scherzer 2.66
2. Carlos Rodon 2.67
3. Max Fried 2.70
4. Brandon Woodruff 2.72
5. Shane McClanahan 2.75
6. Shohei Ohtani 2.78
7. Ranger Suarez 2.80
8. Clayton Kershaw 2.80

Ohtani is also 2nd in IP in that group, despite Ohtani arguably not being a real full-time pitcher yet in 2021. He and McClanahan are also the only pitchers to face DH all 3 years. Ohtani is also 9th in pitching WAR over the same time period. If any pitcher projects to be better than Ohtani going forward, it's not by much.
If you use RA9-WAR (which is purely based on run prevention, whereas the WAR used above is FIP-based, which is largely based on BB/K/HR rate and ignores non-HR batted balls), Ohtani is 3rd most valuable since the beginning of 2021:

1. Sandy Alcantara 13.3
2. Zack Wheeler 13.2
3. Shohei Ohtani 12.9
4. Max Scherzer 12.9
5. Corbin Burnes 12.8
6. Framber Valdez 12.5

Over the same period, Ohtani is 3rd in wRC+ (154, behind Judge at 181 and Yordan Alvarez at 161), 2nd in HR (108 behind Judge at 120). Also 2nd triples (19 vs Amed Rosario at 20) and somehow 12th in SB. No one in the top 10 in HR over that period has more than 4 triples (interestingly, the two that have 4 are Schwarber and Alonso, not exactly who you would've guessed, Judge somehow has 0 triple over that time period).

I don't think any pitcher is clearly better than Ohtani right now and only Judge is clearly better as a hitter. If Ohtani finishes the year strong and Judge continues to struggle with his health, there's an outside chance that Ohtani finishes the season as both the most valuable hitter (not inclusive of positional/fielding value) and the most valuable pitcher over the past 3 years.

If people thought Oakland A's ownership was cheap and only focused on public money for a new stadium, the KC Royals owner today all but admitted they mainly bought the team so they could build a new stadium with surrounding entertainment district. Generously they're only asking for less than $1bln in public money of the $2bln projected construction cost.

Oh that's thoughtful of them.

I love baseball but not one dime of taxpayer money should ever be used for a stadium.

Kaufman Stadium is actually a surprisingly nice place to watch a game.

As someone who has followed the comedy of the A’s ownership for the better part of 20 years:

1. Lol anyone defending A’s ownership
2. Lol anyone defending the city of Oakland
3. The giants definitely ****ed them good by barring them from San Jose

I don’t think any pitcher is ‘clearly better than Othani’ but that’s only because the pitcher position has become such an absurdly nebulous position. Ultimately I just don’t think Ohtani as a pitcher ages well. I could very well be wrong, and I hope I am cuz I love watching the guy, but paying for 10 years of an ace is ****ing dangerous

Ohtani could have waited a year to join MLB. Sign a one year contract to prove himself at age 25. Then get the 800mil contract for his peak years.

he would have had to wait 2 years.he was 23 when he came here. if money was his main objective he clearly would have done that instead of basically playing for nothing his first 5 years in mlb.

he also wanted to come here at 18 or 19 and only stayed over there b/c the team that drafted him said he could play both ways , including the outfield.

it really took the perfect storm for him to even get a chance to pitch and hit.

Mets up 2-1. Carrasco dealing. About to get on a flight so totally expect to land and see them lose by a run.

I was going to Cincy Hard Rock tonight and decided to check the Reds schedule for traffic issues after the game. I saw it began at 5:10 and snap figured that would go into extra innings. I hate getting caught in traffic as it flares a disc problem, sitting in a car where you can't stand and stretch. So I hang around the house until the game is in the 8th (it's a two hour drive), a 1-0 Reds lead. I look up the extra inning prop and it isn't there. I take the next best thing: Padres +362 down 1-0 in the 8th. Sure enough it's not only extras, but my side blows two leads in extra innings, a real rarity.

I roll into Cincy on the Covington bridge right next to the ballpark right at 9 PM. Thousands of pedestrians everywhere milling everywhere and, sure enough, can't budge. Pete Rose Way was a nightmare. 3 blocks took almost an hour. Just what I wanted to avoid by staying home till the frickin bottom of the 8th.

A dude at the table in all his Reds gear says it was the best live game he's ever seen. "Why?" I ask. Turns out De La Cruz had apparently scored the winning run on a bang-bang play at the plate in the bottom of the 9th, but missed the plate. So the fans at first thought it was an exciting finish win, but no ... extra innings. Then the Reds come from behin in the bottom of the 10th to tie, then come behind in the bottom of the 11th to win. Okay ... pretty rare stuff. I muse that a team probably comes from behind in extra innings twice in a game about once a decade.

And the only game in my life I ever tried to bet to go into extra innings was this one.

Happy Bobby Bonilla Day to all who celebrate!

…I think it’s bad form to rub it in while a team and a fan base are struggling. Lord knows I’m a fan of other tortured teams (Falcons).

But when the Mets crowned themselves the 2023 Offseason Champs, they brought this on themselves.

Now the owner’s going on TV saying “it’s getting late?!?” Just all the lols.

I have a futures wager on the Braves from a pre-season FD Boost. iirc got them at 11-1. So (you'll be happy to hear me say...) Go Braves!
