Bad contract, but probably not gonna stifle them for the first half of it. When all the elite talent ****s off, better to overpay someone to stick around and try to maneuver around the cap hit than to resign yourself to the fact that you can only tank and then compete until those draft picks force their way out

just seems so pointless. you're not gonna win anything building a team around a soft playmaking pp pig winger who doesn't play defense, drive play, kill penalties, etc, and he's about to start declining
who's he even gonna be passing to? lindholm? mangiapane? toffoli? yeah, you ain't winning ****

ok you're the ~8th best team and have ~5% cup equity for a couple years? cool, glgl

per athletic, his top historical contract comp is brad richards, who got bought out after year 3 of a 9-year/$60m contract, have fun
https://www.capfriendly.com/players/brad-richards

i guess the problem is that they have too many old guys on big money that they can't get rid of even if they wanted to, because no one's taking on those kind of contracts right now, so this is as good as it's gets

2023 they'll probably have less equity than in 2022 when they lost in 5 to the loilers, and worse in every subsequent year until they rebuild. treliving doesn't seem good enough at his job to get them out of this slide. it'd be very sad if i didn't dislike the flames

K so Bruins bring back Patrice and Krejci, how do our B’s fiends feel about this? Also, why was Jim Montgomery insta-fired by Stars? That never came out…but his next job not long later is with Bruins? Seriously? They know the Sam Adams Brewery is in Boston don’t they? Seems like a bad place for a bad alcoholic.

Huberdeau getting $10.5M AAV until 2031 (age 37) and Kadri $7M AAV until 2029 (age 38)
allin on win now, might even be able to beat the loilers this season ... or at least not lose in 5

Having Lindholm, Kadri, Backlund down the middle, Top 3 Defense core in the league and Markstrom is solid and they will be hard to score on. Still need Mangiapane and Dube to improve thought.

Dude barely has an original body part anymore. There's this story about how he had to re-learn how to skate or something, when skating was never a strength of his to begin with. Two artificial hips ain't great for an athlete.

Also seen the suggestion made that a poorly skating, badly defending, shoot-first center who IIRC kinda specialised in garbage PP goals is just a high-risk aging profile to begin with. He was a very good player for a while with that style and his injuries probably are the biggest culprit, but it's not exactly a high-floor set of tools

Just saw a pretty insane stat. In his entire career, Carey Price has only had a single teammate notch 80+ pts in a season. Kovalev with 84 in Price's rookie season. Even more insane is that he's only had 2 other 70+ point scoring teammates (Domi and Plekanec I believe). The Avs alone last year had 4 guys who outscored the most prolific teammate Price ever had.

Thanks Bergevin!

Haha he did his rehab, deserves the chance.

No sooner did we get happy about 37 and 46, did we start sweating over 88.

Never easy.

Gonna bump the thread for some pics from EUROPE'S TOP CLUB COMPETITION (lol), the Champions Hockey League. Grizzlys Wolfsburg (DEL) vs HK Olimpija Ljubljana from Slovenia (but playing in the Austrian-Slovenian-Italian league). Wolfsburg like their soccer bros are jacked up financially by Volkswagen way beyond their natural popularity so the place was half full at best. 7pm puck drop on a Sunday didn't help.

Some observations:
-Wolfsburg had it in the bag early and won 7-2, not the most interesting of games
-We sat directly behind the away bench, but our heckling didn't accomplish much- neither did our pleas to their coach to sit the **** down behind the bench so we have a better view
-Disappointingly few former NHLers in there. Darren Archibald played some games for the Canucks I guess, but somehow isn't related to Josh Archibald. Justin Pogge a notable Leafs bust, Bruins fans might remember Ryan Button
-Their biggest star is Dustin Strahlmeier, goalie for the German NT. He got "Strahli" chants in the end if you wondered if there's any place where hockey nicknames aren't terrible
-Hockey games around here remain a fashion show for the most random of NHL sweaters

Primo seats! Gotta admit this post represents 100% of my knowledge of current champions league hockey. Hmm Selanne avs shirt... maybe u also saw a Kurri Milan shirt Kurri in head-lines here a lot, been figurehead of (now former) KHL club Jokerit, a looot of shenanigans there as Oligarchs been using him and Kurri doing zero favors to his legacy. Selanne now tried to save the club but current board somehow opted for another offer, that one still a shady one. Not great. Though I support the team that "hates" their club, but yea a bit sad developments.
