Giants will never be a viable option for a prized free agent again
… until the next time they put a few hundred million on the table.

You mean like this time or the time they offered 400 for judge or the time they offered 300 for bro?

Radio over here talking about how now there’s no excuse to not get Ohtani and I’m just like Surejan.gif

Nevermind the fact that boras also happens to be Ohtani’s agent

In the year of our lord 2022 the giants big off-season get was Mitch ****ing Haniger

I’ve never been more disgusted by this team and that includes the time I found out the owner is a MTG donor

All the talent that passed through free agency in the last 2 years and the giants come away with Joc, Haniger and Rodon’s compensatory pick

Yay!

Giants have all the eggs on their face, but Correa/Boras instantly taking 10% less rather than hitting the open market again seems super suspicious

Correa atop the leaderboard in the insta-bad contracts given out this year. He'll be really good for 3-4 years though

That's what I was thinking. There were a bunch of other teams in on him that I would've assumed had already made offers a lot closer to the Giants one and now have now have even fewer backup options available, so why is he rushing to take this Mets lowball in the middle of the night? Makes me wonder if this physical issue is not so minor.

Today I found out the Braves joined the NL East instead of NL Central by choice. Too late to change?

it's not insta-bad if he's good for 3-4 years ducy

pretty sure the way revenues and inflation is going, most of these super long deals aren't even going to be that bad in to the back ends. CBT threshold is almost certainly going up in the next CBA since teams aren't going to be able to put their rosters together without spending, and owners are going to rather pay their players if the alternative is paying taxes on their payrolls, since that money just gets spread around to teams that receive revenue sharing.

If you’re seriously going to put up a 500 mil payroll you can’t really measure any contract on its value merits. Cohen gives exactly 0 ****s

Also don’t really think it’s too much of a lowball. It’s essentially the same contract for 1 fewer year. Mets probably said ‘sign this and we don’t give a **** what your physical says.’ And I assume he woulda been a Met anyway if not for the giants offer so while it’s possible there are shenanigans afoot it’s probably just as likely he wanted to be a Met anyway

I still cannot get over just what a bad look this is for the Giants. Just **** **** **** bumbling **** **** ass

If rumors are true:

1. Injury that showed up predates Correa’s career
2. Boras gave the giants time to do further research, contacted yesterday and the giants said they were willing to continue negotiations then ghosted him
3. Boras gave them 12 hours then opened up negotiations with the Mets

And now we’re here

If that retelling is actually how it went down, fire and blackball the entire front office and send Charles Johnson to the bottom rung of hell

Yeah, but he's going to be bad by the end of either deal and this will likely be his last contract, so losing that extra year is just flushing 40M that he'll never recoup. Maybe I'm wrong and the Giants just way outbid everyone else, but it seems like a massive drop-off between the best and second-best offers if that's what it is.

of course they will be. having guys sucking ass the last few years of their contract for 30-35 million will still be terrible even if salaries go up a lot by then.

Here is my theory since the story is "medical issue pre-MLB" that has not been a problem in his career: he's HIV-positive and MAGA ownership wouldn't pull the trigger

Ya it seems weird to say but the Mets really don’t seem THAT good

Biggest payroll by far in the history of North American sports and they’re maybe the 6th best team in baseball

Where does Lindor + Correa rank historically among the great pairings of left-side infielders?

Probably not as high as you would assume considering it’s not even the best left side in the NL today
