laffs giving away a bunch of good players so they can bring in guys like luke schenn lol, lmao

In five days, Ron Hextall has waived:

-The first player he added to the Penguins' roster (Friedman)
-The first player he added to the Penguins via unrestricted free agency (McGinn)
-A restricted free agent he signed to a $3.2 million cap hit (Kapanen)
why did anyone think letting ron hextall and brian burke run a team in 2023 would be a good idea? lol

I agree, it's a tough year looking like If by some divine miracle I still don't see them making it past round 2.

Are you saying signing 1200 year old Jeff Carter to a no movement clause meaning you can’t even waive him is a bad idea?

well tbf there's no way for someone who worked for the flyers to know that giving jeff carter a nmc could be a bad idea

crazy how little the rangers had to give up to get kane

also loving toronto's trade to get a 1st round pick and gustafson for their buried sandin

dallas getting dadonov at half salary also nice offensive upgrade over gurianov

edm dealing 1st round pick and prospect to go from barrie to ekholm seems dumb, ekholm is not going to be the difference maker and their main issue is depth not barrie being bad at defense

I think this has to be because afaik NYR was the only place Kane would agree to go, no?

also because he makes like $11m or whatever and hasn't played the slightest bit of defense since ~2015

yeah i know but it's still kinda crazy they didn't bluff with "we'd rather just hold him" - which i assume they did given this took a few days to go through

really goes back to how big a f up it was for them not to shop him last year back when they actually had some leverage of "we can just hold him"

also super underwhelmed by what SJ got for timo who was arguably the best player to get moved

lol thought you were talking about barrie at first

kane is absolutely elite offensively though, watching him on the power play, never seen anyone as good as him at that ever in my life, the things he can do are just magic and I've been desperate to see him back on a good team/offense again

The East is so stacked, especially if Miller, Boeser, Chychrun all go east. The playoffs are going to be a blood bath, I could see an under the radar team like Calgary get hot at the right now and go on a run to win this season.

miller ain't going anywhere. his contract is brutal, and now they're saying he's been playing hurt all season. decent chance he gets shut down

rumours about something based around boeser for marcus petterson though, with the canucks retaining a chunk i'd assume. maybe throwing in bodies if the pens need depth? i know they don't wanna blow picks if they can avoid it

edit: and to the caps for like mantha, among others. wouldn't be surprised if he gets moved

Cheers, all good. Havent watched many games but a fun trade dead-line so yeah gearing up for play-offs, should be great games! East looks stacked as you guys say. Boston record pretty unreal. Good luck

Ekholm is a good get for the Oil in the short term. None of their other D are any good at winning possession and sending the team up ice with a clean pass. Barrie won't be a loss, maybe the cap will really start going up by the time Ekholm breaks down too.

Seems risky for CBJ to trade for Quick. Not that he's been good but I wouldn't put it past him to win a few games on his own out of spite. Can always let him ride the pine I guess

The Toronto Maple Leafs are pleased to announce they have signed housenuts, lozen and Malucci to contracts since we are getting everyone under the sun anyway and if Tampa can go over the cap for the playoffs, dammit so can we!

Also we are desperate, we as in Dubas.

Does anyone know the conditions of the picks traded for Chycrun? The only thing that could make that trade worth the wait is if the first rounder turns into Tim Stützle if it's not 1st overall

Came across this, probably does not answer your question. haha.

Ottawa’s 2023 first-round pick is top-five protected, so the Senators won’t lose out on Connor Bedard, Adam Fantilli or Leo Carlsson if things go awry. If the 2023 first-round pick doesn’t convert this year, it will turn into an unprotected 2024 first-round selection for the Coyotes. It’s worth noting that the top of the 2023 draft projects to be significantly better than the 2024 cohort. Arizona did not retain any of Chychrun’s salary in the deal.

the Penguins traded a second-round pick for a 30-something bottom-six center who is undersized and counts $5 million against cap for next two seasons. If there's a plan in Pittsburgh, I can't see it.

the pens, also hopeless

Is Hextall getting revenge on the Pens for this?
