To be fair the 1903 word series wasn't scheduled before the season. The Pirates challenged Boston when they had both basically locked up their respective pennants late in the season to a post season series.They tried something similar in 1902 and it fell through. It wasn't until 1905 where it was agreed upon before the season that the winners of the 2 leagues would play each other in the World Series (which was still best of 9)
