you think Moses had 47.02 in the early 80s, then Kevin Young was 46.78 at Barcelona. It took 29 years to take less than a tenth off Young's time and then for Benjamin to take half a second off that time and still get soundly beaten is incredible.

I reckon only Bob Beamon's 68 jump and maaaaaaybe Johnson's 200 in Atlanta are 'bigger' WRs. Bolt 9.59 obviously up there too, but I'm not sure that's quite as big an improvement.

and then Koch, Kratochvilova and Flo Jo in women's but I can't count them because I'm certain they're all tainted

The new shoe technology helps a lot, and from what I've read the 400 m hurdles are possibly the event where it helps the most. Seems similar to the buoyant swimsuits that helped shatter swimming records a decade ago.

There haven't been any other WRs at all at the Games yet in track or field and only a few small improvements across the entire year, whereas he's taken more time out of the record than it had moved in the past 44 years.
